Depok, May 18, 2026 – Eighteen lecturers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), have successfully secured grants under the 2026 Funding Recipients Announcement for the Research Program, Community Service, Priority Research Downstreaming, Impactful Excellent Consortium Research, and Nusantara Arts Innovation Program organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) for the 2026 Fiscal Year. This achievement reflects FMIPA UI’s active contribution to the development of leading research that supports the advancement of science, innovation, and solutions to various national development challenges.
The funding program represents Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening research, promoting the downstreaming of research outcomes, and enhancing the quality of impactful community service initiatives. In addition, the program reinforces the role of higher education institutions as key actors in generating science- and technology-based solutions in line with the Impactful Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Diktisaintek Berdampak) agenda.
The wide range of funded research topics reflects the breadth of academic disciplines at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia, spanning physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and geography. The research proposals submitted by the lecturers also focus on strategic issues, including renewable energy, health, disaster mitigation, quantum technology, the environment, and artificial intelligence.
From the Department of Physics, Prof. Dr. Anto Sulaksono received two research grants through the topics “Neural Network Approaches in the Analysis of Nuclear Properties within the Relativistic Mean Field Model” under the Doctoral Dissertation Research scheme, and “Constraints on Quantum Gravity Theory from Event Horizon Telescope Observables: A Unified Approach of the Generalized Uncertainty Principle and f(R) Gravity” under the Fundamental Research–Regular scheme.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ivandini Tribidasari Anggraningrum from the Department of Chemistry also secured two Doctoral Dissertation Research grants through studies on the development of energy materials, namely “High-Performance Supercapacitors Based on Nickel–Zinc Metal Layered Double Hydroxides Modified with Graphene from Carbon Rods of Waste Batteries” and “Synthesis of Trimetallic NiFeZn Electrodes on Nickel Foam Surfaces for Ammonia Fuel Cells.”
In the fields of environmental and health research, Prof. Dr. Noverita Dian Takarina is conducting a study on the integration of ecogenotoxicity and health risks associated with heavy metal contamination in green mussels along the northern coast of Java. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Vivi Fauzia is developing antibacterial textiles based on ZnO and ramie leaves, while Prof. Supriyanto is researching CBCT-based adaptive radiotherapy to improve the quality of medical imaging.
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia’s contribution to health research is also evident through the studies conducted by Dr. Dipo Aldila on mitigating the spread of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in post-flood evacuation camps using mathematical modeling approaches, as well as modeling the control of Hepatitis B and D through treatment interventions and liver transplantation.
In addition, several other research projects also address issues related to green energy, disaster mitigation, biotechnology, and the application of artificial intelligence. One of them is the study conducted by Pranda Mulya Putra Garniwa from the Department of Geography on the use of Large Language Models as virtual experts in decision-making methods for selecting Solar Power Plant (PLTS) locations based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
