The Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) announced the students who successfully graduated from the Program Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) 2023. The selection results will be announced on Saturday (15/4/2023) via each participant’s account.
IISMA is a flagship program of the Independent Campus (Kampus Merdeka), organized through a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) and the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) of the Ministry of Finance. Registration for IISMA 2023 officially opened from February 8 to March 1, 2023.
A total of 19 students from various study programs at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), have successfully received the scholarships. This number has increased from 13 students the previous year.
The students are scheduled to begin their studies at partner universities across Asia, Australia, and Europe in mid-2023. The study period will last one semester, or 4-6 months.
Before departing for their destination countries, they participated in a series of briefings and technical guidance sessions, including national and diversity education, bullying and violence prevention, and technical guidance on academics, monitoring and evaluation, finances, and departure. The briefings and technical guidance were conducted over two weeks, from April 29 to May 13, 2023.
Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., expressed his gratitude for the increase in the number of students who passed this year’s IISMA and expressed his appreciation for all of them. He stated that this success was due to the support and collaboration of the academic community and educational staff.
“We believe the increase in the number of FMIPA UI participants this year is certainly something to be grateful for, and we understand that this success was achieved thanks to the collective efforts of the academic community and staff involved,” the Dean told the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.
The Dean emphasized that the leadership of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI is committed to fully supporting and encouraging students to actively participate in various self-development activities. One of these is the IISMA (Independent Learning and Independent Campus) program, which is part of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka program.
One semester, the Dean continued, is not a long period of study, so the Dean advised the participants to take advantage of this good opportunity with enthusiasm, so that the students can gain a broader understanding of international academic and cultural diversity.
He also hopes that participants can become good representatives of Indonesian students, develop international networks, and develop the skills to become world leaders in the future.
“It’s important for me to convey to the participants that one semester is a relatively short time, so make the most of this opportunity, be a good representative of Indonesian students, and prepare yourselves to become future world leaders,” he added.
This year, IISMA attracted more than 1,860 student applicants from 117 universities and vocational program universities throughout Indonesia.
According to an official release from the University of Indonesia (UI), this year UI sent 945 undergraduate students and 98 vocational students to compete in the IISMA selection process. Of these, 295 students passed. This number consisted of 253 undergraduate students and 42 vocational students.
The IISMA Scholarship provides students in their fifth or seventh semesters with the opportunity to study at a foreign university for one semester. Selected students receive recognition for their study experience in the form of 20 semester credit units (SKS).
The IISMA scholarship covers registration and tuition fees, health insurance, living allowance, flight and visa costs. To be able to participate in the program, students must meet academic requirements, namely a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0 and English language requirements as evidenced by a TOEFL iBT score (minimum 78 for undergraduate and 60 for vocational), IELTS (minimum 6.0), Duolingo English Test (minimum 100 for undergraduate and 95 for vocational), or TOEIC (minimum 605 for vocational).
The selection stages that students must go through include filling in personal data, sending English language test files, creating recommendation letters and academic transcripts, and filling in essays.
