UI FMIPA student Gabrielle Shannen Leonard (Statistics 2019) and her team from across faculties and universities successfully won 1st place in the national competition. COMPFEST 12: Startup Academy organized by Fasilkom UI. They won the award thanks to their platform, tutee.id.
At the announcement of the winners of COMPFEST 12 which was held online on Sunday, August 16 2020, the education-based platform created by Shannen and her team was named as Best Startup.
tutee.id claims to be a platform for students to find tutors to prepare for quizzes and exams. In developing the platform, Shannen collaborated with two teammates: Samuel, a student at Prasetya Mulya University, and Jeremy, a student at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Indonesia.
In the team, Shannen plays the role of Head of Creative MarketingHe often holds meetings with prospective investors and mentors.
Shannen revealed that she and her team had been developing the platform since last year. It was also last year that they began developing their platform.
He finally decided to join this academy (the stage before the competition) with the hope that the tutee.id platform he created would become more well-known and its existence validated.
“In this academy we are equipped with speaker with materials about startups such as Lean Startup, Growth Hack Marketing, User Research, Minimum Viable Product, And Pitching 101“Then there were four mentors who guided our team for two weeks to strengthen the foundation of our startup,” said Shannen.
A total of 153 startups registered in the themed competition Empowering Technological Breakthrough in Shifting Towards a Digital Culture ini.
However, only the 10 best teams will have the opportunity to appear in a pitching competition to investors and ultimately compete for the title of ‘Best Startup’.
“Initially we were asked to make pitch deck and business model canvas“The pitch deck was presented in video format and sent to the committee. We waited for the announcement, and it turned out we made it to the top 10,” Shannen continued.
Not stopping at the top 10, the platform of his hard work with the team ultimately brought Shannen’s team victory. For him, the title “Best Startup” which is embedded on tutee.id more than that, for Shannen her victory with the team was also her most beautiful birthday present which fell right on the day the winner was announced.
Despite this, Shannen admits she will never be satisfied. Her achievements further motivate her to make a real contribution to the nation by continuing to learn and develop her skills.
“In the future, I want to always learn, innovate, and contribute to Indonesia. Stay hungry and stay foolish lah “Cool language, so you don’t get satisfied too quickly,” he added.
Shannen hopes her fellow students will be motivated to challenge themselves to create innovation. She believes being a student offers a valuable opportunity to positively impact many people by solving the many problems that arise in everyday life.
“Don’t be afraid to create, be a student privilege. Providing a positive impact on those around us,” Shannen concluded.
