Depok, Thursday (September 3, 2020). Nine FMIPA UI contingents have successfully qualified and are ready to advance to the National Selection stage of the 2020 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN-MIPA), which will be held from September 7-10, 2020.

They are Alfin Alexander (FMIPA UI 2017) and Maria Celinna (FMIPA UI 2017) in biology, Muhammad Fauzan Syahbana (FMIPA UI 2019) and Yuwanza Ramadhan (FMIPA UI 2019) in physics, Hilya Aulia (FMIPA UI 2017) and Michael Lesa (FMIPA UI 2018) in chemistry, and Andry Wijaya (FMIPA UI 2017), Juan Daniel (FMIPA UI 2017), and Kelvin Tenata (FMIPA UI 2018) in mathematics.

Before being confirmed to advance to the national selection stage, KN-MIPA participants passed the first stage of selection (at the university level) and the second stage (at the regional level). The national selection was initially scheduled for June 9-12, 2020.

However, due to the increasing trend of the Covid-19 pandemic, the final stage of activities and the determination of the winners were postponed to September 7-10, 2020.

Andry Wijaya, one of the UI FMIPA contingents, hopes that he can remain focused on KN-MIPA 2020 so that he can bring home a medal.

“We were able to focus on the competition even though it was held online,” said Andry when contacted by the UI FMIPA Public Relations team via a short message application.

The Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Dr. Techn. Djoko Triyono, expressed his support for these top students.

He hopes that the FMIPA UI contingent can give their best for their faculty and prepare themselves well to face this competition.

“Amid this pandemic, we continue to support and encourage our students to remain enthusiastic about learning, even though it must be done online. Likewise, in competitions, students must remain active in honing their skills and talents through competitions in both non-academic and academic fields,” said Dr. Djoko.

KN-MIPA is a national competition in the field of science covering biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbud RI).

Since its inception in 2009, this competition was originally called the National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad, or ON-MIPA. However, this year the competition was renamed KN-MIPA.
