Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia has held a Visiting Professorship series from November 2020 until December 2020 as a part of the efforts to improve the academic quality and reputation of Department of Chemistry, Universitas Indonesia to the global academia around the world. This activity invites five professors, specialized in material-based chemistry, from five renowned, world class universities. The five speakers are:
- Prof. Angel Cuesta Ciscar (University of Aberdeen, Scotland)
- Prof. Yoshihiro Sato (Hokkaido University, Japan)
- Prof. Chin Wee Shong (National University of Singapore, Singapore)
- Prof. Yasuaki Einaga (Keio University, Japan), and
- Prof. Hisao Yoshida (Kyoto University, Japan)
This Visiting Professorship series are expected to strengthen the academic quality of the students, lecturers, and research staffs of the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Indonesia, especially in the functional material fields, through lecturers and discussion sessions that are held throughout this series of events. In addition, through this activity, the scientific knowledge and curiosity of the participants will be further enhanced through the transfer of knowledge from the speakers, whose knowledge and expertise have been internationally recognized. The information regarding the implementation of the Visiting Professorship series can be seen in the poster below:
The Visiting Professorship series began with an online lecture and comprehensive discussions from Prof. Angel Cuesta Ciscar from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural and Computer Sciences, University of Aberdeen. The event took place on 11 and 25 November 2020 with the topic “Interfacial Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Kinetics” and “Electrocatalytic Reduction of CO2”, respectively. In the end of lecture session, some of the graduated students and lectures were actively involved in the discussion session which was answered and responded by Prof. Angel Cuesta Ciscar himself. These lecturers were moderated by Dr. Rahmat Wibowo. The documentation of the events that have been held are displayed as follows:
Then, Prof. Yoshihiro Sato from Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hokkaido University, were also participated in this series on 12 and 19 November 2020 to deliver his research expertise and development in the past years. He, who is an expert in the organometallic synthesis field, opened his presentation with the topic “Rhodium catalyzed cyclization through Rhodacycle Intermediates”, followed by a presentation entitled “Carboxylation via Nickelacycle Intermediate” in the following week. These presentations were moderated by Dr. rer. Nat. Agustino Zulys and ended with the discussion session from the students and lecturers from Department of Chemistry, Universitas Indonesia. The following documentation is attached to the event which was delivered by Prof. Yoshihiro Sato.
In the following session, Prof. Chin Wee Shong from Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore, also gave presentations on her ongoing research and research experiences on 18 and 20 November 2020. At that time, she delivered a presentation entitled “Nanoscience and Nanotechnology” which describes the application of nanoscale technologies in daily life and describes ways to synthesize them. As with the previous two lecturers, this event was also ended with the discussion and Q&A sessions as well. These events were moderated by Dr. Yuni Krisnandi on both occasions. The following documentation related to the online lecture and discussion by Prof. Chin Wee Shong are attached below:
Moreover, Prof. Yasuaki Einaga from Department of Chemistry, Keio University also gave presentations on his latest research in the electrochemistry and boron-doped diamond related fields. The online sessions and comprehensive discussions from Prof. Yasuaki Einaga took place on 2 and 4 December 2020 with the title of “Boron Doped Diamond Material” and were directly moderated by Prof. Ivandini Tribidasari Anggraningrum. The following documentation of the Prof. Yasuaki Einaga events are attached below:
Finally, Prof. Hisao Yoshida from Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, Kyoto University were also invited as a notable speaker in this series. In both sessions, Prof. Hisao Yoshida gave his insights and views on the photocatalysts role in solving various energy and environmental problems. The events were held on 11 and 18 December 2020 and moderated by Dr. Jarnuzi Gunlazuardi. These events were also ended with the discussion sessions from the graduated students and lecturers. As for the events presented by Prof. Hisao Yoshida, the documentations related to these events are attached below:
