The purpose of this visit was to introduce RIKEN and their research activities to the faculties at UI on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Indonesia, and to ask for support from RIKEN’s own goal of expanding international collaboration in materials science. In addition, they also informed about the RIKEN Representative Office in Singapore as RIKEN’s first overseas office that will coordinate research exchanges and collaborations between RIKEN and Southeast Asian countries. In Indonesia, RIKEN has established parternship with five leading universities including UI.
Present as RIKEN delegates wereProf. Isao Watanabe, RIKEN Nishina Accelerator-Based Science Center,Mr. Genichi Tuzawa, Director of RIKEN Singapore Representative Office, andMr. Takuo Ohata, Deputy Director of RIKEN Singapore Representative Office. Meanwhile, FMIPA UI representatives wereDr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, Dean of FMIPA UI,Drs. On this occasion, RIKEN discussed further collaboration in materials science with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. They also offer a program called the IPA (International Associate Program), where non-Japanese doctoral candidates attend Japanese or foreign graduate schools participating in RIKEN’s joint graduate program. IPA conducts research at RIKEN under the supervision of RIKEN scientists to help them earn aDoctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)degree . This program has been running for nine years and provides living expenses and housing assistance for three years.
