Today, Thursday (21/12/2017) the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UI held a thanksgiving to commemorate its 57th anniversary.
However, there was something different about this celebration. While in previous years, the FMIPA UI anniversary was celebrated in Building B, this year’s celebration was held in the FMIPA UI-Pertamina Multidisciplinary Laboratory Building, an eight-story building nearly complete and slated for inauguration next month.
In his remarks, Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, expressed his gratitude for the achievements and improvements achieved by the Faculty in its 57th year.
Among them is the construction of the UI-Pertamina FMIPA Multidisciplinary Laboratory, which is an implementation of the collaboration between UI and PT Pertamina (Persero).
Haris stated that the construction of the building is an effort to advance and develop FMIPA UI’s research in the future. He also expressed his appreciation for the role of FMIPA UI’s partners involved in the construction of the laboratory building, located in the FMIPA UI Dean’s Office area.
Haris hopes that with the establishment of this laboratory, FMIPA UI can produce more qualified graduates and researchers who can compete and contribute to the faculty. According to Haris, the progress of the industrial sector depends on the quality of its human resources.
In addition to the construction of the Multidisciplinary Laboratory Building, another achievement of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI is the increased research productivity of its lecturers. Haris claims that over 100 lecturers have produced over 400 Scopus-indexed publications within three years. Haris hopes this achievement will foster a culture of research at UI.
Also present at the event were Dr. Muhammad Dimyati and Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriatna. Both were present to deliver scientific speeches. The speech entitled “R&D Prospects in Promoting Science and Technology in the Millennial Era” was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Dimyati, and the speech entitled “Science and Technology Research in the Era of Disruption and SDGs” was delivered by Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriatna.
Over more than half a century of service and innovation for the nation, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI’s crucial role is inextricably linked to the achievements of its deans, who have propelled the faculty forward. Over the past 57 years, FMIPA UI has been led by 11 deans. They have successfully carried out their mandate to produce competent young people in mathematics and the natural sciences. Therefore, FMIPA UI invited the previous deans to this event.
Unfortunately, several of them were unable to attend due to poor health. Only Dr. Suhardjo Poertadji, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) from 2000 to 2004, and Dr. Adi Basukriadi, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) from 2004 to 2012, were able to fulfill the invitation.
As a token of appreciation for the former deans, the leadership of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia (UI) presented them with symbolic gold badges, presented directly by Abdul Haris.
