Commemorating Earth Day, the UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Student Executive Board (BEM FMIPA UI) promotes the #YUKPAKAITUMBLER movement.

Monday, April 23 2018, the Student Executive Board (BEM) of FMIPA UI commemorated Earth Day which falls every April 22 by promoting the #YUKPAKAITUMBLER movement.

Through this activity, the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (BEM FMIPA UI) invites all FMIPA UI academics and the Indonesian public to reduce the use of plastic bottles by using tumblers. This is because tumblers are portable and reusable beverage bottles.

The Head of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UI), Ahmad Fauzan Kamaluddin (Chemistry), explained that the plastic bottle reduction movement aims to reduce plastic waste production and increase awareness among FMIPA UI residents about the increasingly worrying amount of plastic waste produced on earth.

The #YUKPAKAITUMBLER movement that was launched this year provides a benefit for those who participate, namely anyone who brings a tumbler can refill drinking water for free which is provided in Building B.

Still in commemoration of Earth Day, on April 25, 2018, BEM FMIPA UI received a visit from the BEM UI Department of Environment. The visit was a form of collaboration for the 10,000 Free Tumbler Bottles Movement by opening a small booth in the area of Building B FMIPA UI. Visitors to the booth could exchange 5 plastic bottles for 1 tumbler bottle for free.

The 10,000 Free Tumbler Bottles campaign, initiated by the Student Executive Board of the University of Indonesia (BEM UI), was not only held at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UI) but also at several other faculties at the university. The event, held from April 25 to May 3, 2018, was met with enthusiasm by the FMIPA UI academic community, as evidenced by the long queues at the booth.

In addition to the plastic bottle reduction campaign, the 2018 UI FMIPA Student Executive Board (BEM FMIPA UI) also provided information about Earth Day on its LINE and Instagram accounts. This information covered the shape of the Earth, its evolution, the evolution of the continents, and its current state.

By providing this knowledge, BEM FMIPA UI hopes that FMIPA UI students and even all Indonesian people can learn more about the ins and outs of the earth so that they can participate in efforts to reduce the amount and problem of plastic waste.

According to Shintia (Mathematics) from the UI Student Executive Board (BEM FMIPA UI), as the Earth ages each year, so does its human population. Therefore, Earth’s condition should be given greater attention to ensure its suitability as a planet for living creatures.
