Fifteen Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI students participated in a summer course as part of the Student Mobility program at Universiti Teknologi Petronas. They came from several departments: Afifah Luthfiyyah, Anindia Kusuma Winahyu, Darin Alya Khairunnisa R, Dhandi Maulana Y, Dian Nur Setiani, Nur Fatwa Oryza Ayu Alivia, and Muhammad Alzaid Poinka from the Department of Geosciences; Bima Adnanta Setyawan, Diki Nurul Huda, and Muhammad Habib Maksum A from the Department of Geography; Dinda Shezaria Hardy L and Saika Faradila from the Department of Biology; Iluk Hayuningtyas from the Department of Chemistry; and Aldey Wahyu Putra from the Department of Physics.

During their approximately two-week summer course at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, they participated in several activities, including short courses with lectures from the UTP Department of Geosciences and oil and gas companies such as Schlumberger, Beicip-Franlab Asia, and others.
In addition, field trips were also conducted to Kek Look Tong Cave, Perak Cave Temple, and Gunung Lang, where Mr. Choong Chee Meng, M.Sc., provided an explanation of regional geology. They were given a presentation on the history, rock formation processes, geomorphological forms, and rock types found in the Kinta Valley area of Perak, Malaysia.
“The UTP Student Mobility program was very helpful in furthering my understanding of the oil and gas industry, especially regarding seismic methods. Besides learning, this program introduced me to the culture of Perak, Malaysia, and provided an overview of the learning system at UTP,” said Darin.
Furthermore, Dinda, a biology major, explained that participating in the program allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of biology’s relationship with geosciences and its real-world applications. Through the program, she learned about the learning environment in other countries, including the food and culture, and of course, gained connections and experience. She hopes that more FMIPA UI students will be able to participate in similar programs.

It is hoped that the UTP Student Mobility summer course activities can be held annually through the collaboration that has been built by FMIPA UI and UTP so that students can exchange insights and learn about learning in different countries.
