Depok, Monday (June 17). In the second week after offices resumed operations, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Indonesia held a Halal Bihalal event at Building B, FMIPA UI, Depok, to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1440 Hijri.
The event, which is an annual routine activity of FMIPA UI following the extended Eid al-Fitr holiday, was attended by the Chair of the Academic Senate of UI, Prof. Nachrowi D. Nachrowi, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Dean of FMIPA UI along with his staff, lecturers, department heads, program heads, members of the Faculty Senate, the Chair and members of the Academic Senate, the Chair of ILUNI FMIPA UI, students, and educational staff at FMIPA UI, as well as FMIPA UI partners.
The event began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Ustadz Ahmad Yasin, followed by a speech by Dr.rer.nat. Abdul Haris, Dean of FMIPA UI, and a religious lecture by Ustadz Abdi Kurnia.
“Please forgive me for any wrongdoings, both physical and emotional.” Haris began his speech.
This apology was made on behalf of himself and the entire leadership of FMIPA UI. In his speech, Haris urged all members of the FMIPA UI community to continue fostering a spirit of excellence in improving performance.
According to him, this is essential as an effort to contribute the best from FMIPA UI to the University of Indonesia, given that UI, as a leading university in Indonesia, is currently facing numerous challenges, including competitiveness, the qualifications and quality of educators, and innovation.
“Let us take this opportunity to cultivate enthusiasm to further improve our performance in the future. UI, our beloved institution, is currently facing increasingly fierce competition,” said Haris.
Therefore, Haris continued, this challenge must be addressed swiftly and effectively by stakeholders within the FMIPA UI community, particularly regarding the quality of our educators. This will enhance the competitiveness of FMIPA UI and UI against competitors and increase their appeal to prospective students.
“The challenges are already before us; we must respond quickly to them. We must be prepared to make significant changes if we do not want to be left behind,” he added.
According to him, one of the main steps for FMIPA UI at this time is to increase the ratio of faculty members holding doctoral degrees across all programs. He also urged FMIPA UI faculty members who currently hold master’s degrees to pursue doctoral education.
During the event, Haris symbolically presented awards to retired faculty members and staff of FMIPA UI whose terms of service ended last year and this year.

Haris also gave symbolic awards to his students from the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology departments who succeeded in becoming finalists and achieving achievements in the 2019 ON-MIPA PT event.

The Halal Bihalal (gathering) event was held in a friendly atmosphere. It concluded with handshakes, forgiveness, friendly exchanges, and a shared lunch.
