On Monday (April 29, 2019), Daewoong again awarded scholarships to a total of 35 students from the University of Indonesia. The scholarships were awarded symbolically to students from various faculties at UI in the Floating Room of the University of Indonesia Library during the 2019 Daewoong Scholarship ceremony.
Five students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia (UI) received scholarships from the Korean pharmaceutical company. They are William Renaldi, Chantika Octaviani Putri, Olivia Pamela Madeleine Sitompul, Putra Mahanaim Tampubolon, and Anastasia Hengestu. Each student received a scholarship of US$1,000, or approximately 14 million rupiah.
UI’s Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Arman Nefi S.H., M.M., explained that UI continues to build relationships with universities worldwide. “UI is committed to contributing in various fields to address national, regional, and global challenges,” he said.
As a UI representative, Arman expressed his appreciation for the scholarships provided by the Daewoong Foundation to UI students.
“As we know, not all students studying at UI have the same financial resources. Therefore, UI appreciates the support from the Daewoong Foundation in providing scholarships and support to UI students,” Arman continued.
In his remarks, Daewong-UI Chief of Research Eui Nam Lee congratulated the scholarship recipients. “I would like to congratulate all the students receiving these scholarships. These scholarships represent Daewong’s support for the Indonesian bioindustry, which has been running since 2012,” Lee said.
Daewoong Foundation is part of Daewoong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a Korean pharmaceutical company that was founded in 1945. This company was founded in Indonesia under the name PT Daewoong Pharmaceutical Company Indonesia in 2005.
Since then, Daewoong has contributed to the health of the Indonesian people by participating in marketing medical devices and medicines, licensing and technology transfer with local companies, as well as in the field of education.
