Depok, September 18, 2025 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), through the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with PT SIG Laboratory, successfully held Halal Analytical Forum 2025 titled “SNI-Based Testing Methods & Their Implementation for the Food Industry: Supporting Indonesia’s Vision as a Global Halal Production Hub,” on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Pertamina Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, FMIPA UI, Universitas Indonesia Campus, Depok.
The forum featured speakers from various key stakeholders in the national halal ecosystem, including Dr. Ir. Ahmad Haikal Hasan, S.Kom., M.MT (Head of the Indonesian Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency), Dr. apt. Catur Jatmika (University of Indonesia Halal Center), and Dwi Yulianto Laksono (General Manager of SIG Laboratory).
The event opened with remarks from the institutional leaders, namely Prof. Dede Djuhana, M.Si., Ph.D. (Dean of FMIPA UI), Dr. M. Edi Premono (Director of SIG Laboratory), and Asep Saefumillah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. (Head of the Department of Chemistry, UI). All three highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in establishing a halal testing system that is standardized, accurate, and recognized both nationally and globally.

In his speech, Prof. Dede Djuhana emphasized that this forum is not only relevant for the academic community but also highly strategic for industry and the wider public.
“As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has both the responsibility and a great opportunity to become a global halal production hub. To realize this vision, we need standardization, accurate, valid, and reliable testing methods, as well as support from academic institutions, industry, regulators, and the public,” said Prof. Dede.
Furthermore, Prof. Dede added that FMIPA UI, with its strengths in sciences such as chemistry, biology, and analytical science, is strongly committed to continuously supporting research and innovation in halal testing.
“Through collaboration with PT SIG Laboratory, this forum represents a concrete step in strengthening laboratory capacity, developing SNI-based methods, and serving as a platform for knowledge transfer between academics and industry practitioners,” he concluded.
The Halal Analytical Forum 2025 is part of a strategic effort to build a strong national halal ecosystem, grounded in science and in accordance with international standards, while also strengthening Indonesia’s role as a globally recognized halal production hub.
