Depok, February 24, 2026 — The advancement of digital technology and the increasing complexity of cyber threats demand innovative efforts to strengthen national defense. It is no longer solely about protecting military infrastructure; early detection capabilities and strategic analysis in the digital space have now become essential components of national security.
In response to these challenges, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) initiated exploratory cooperation with the Indonesian National Armed Forces Cyber Unit (Satsiber TNI). The meeting took place at the FMIPA UI Administration Center in Depok on Tuesday (February 24, 2026), focusing on opportunities for applied research, the development of defense technologies, and the cultivation of scientific talent to address national issues.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., explained that FMIPA UI has a strong scientific foundation in mathematics, statistics, physics, computation, and data analytics. This strength enables the university to deliver concrete solutions in the cyber domain.

“Modern cyberspace demands integrated data analysis, mathematical modeling, and computational technology. Collaboration with Satsiber TNI represents an important momentum to deliver research that has a direct impact on national digital sovereignty,” said Prof. Tito.
The Indonesian National Armed Forces Cyber Unit (Satsiber TNI), a unit under the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), supports the three service branches through cyber defense, cyber operations, and cyber intelligence functions. Its duties include protecting networks and information systems, conducting cyber operations, and monitoring digital threats that may affect national sovereignty.
The Deputy Commander of Satsiber TNI, Anang Murtioso, emphasized the importance of academic collaboration. “Research support and science-based innovation enable us to enhance early detection capabilities, threat analysis, and the development of adaptive and sustainable defense technologies,” said Anang.

During the meeting, both parties discussed various potential collaborations, ranging from research in cryptography and mathematics- and statistics-based communication security, to the utilization of big data and artificial intelligence for threat detection, as well as risk modeling and early warning systems using quantitative approaches.
They also highlighted the integration of spatial analysis to support intelligence and territorial monitoring, as well as the development of a simulation laboratory or Cyber Range, along with artificial intelligence innovation programs for defense.
The cooperation plan is designed to be implemented in stages. In the initial phase, activities will include public lectures, thematic discussions, cybersecurity webinars, and limited internship programs for outstanding students. In the medium term, the focus will shift to applied research, fast-track talent programs for high-achieving students, and academically based cybersecurity certification.
In the long term, both parties are exploring the establishment of a Center of Excellence in Cyber Science & Defense Analytics, a simulation laboratory for training, as well as dual-career programs for academics and defense practitioners, including Master’s and Doctoral education programs.

The Satsiber TNI delegation in attendance included Colonel Cke Anang Murtioso, Deputy Commander of the TNI Cyber Unit; Colonel Lek Mohyil Umam, Assistant for Logistics (Asminlog) of Satsiber TNI; and Lieutenant Colonel Cke Muchdi, Commander of the Satsiber TNI Cyber Center (Dansatpuscertan), representing Brigadier General TNI J.O. Sembiring, S.H., S.E., M.M., who was unable to attend.
Representing FMIPA UI were Prof. Dr. Drs. Suryadi, M.T., Professor of Data Security; Dra. Astrid Damayanti, M.Si., Head of Secretariat; Januar Widakdo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit; Zico Alaia Akbar Junior, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., Manager of the Research Ecosystem and Impactful Science Downstreaming; Dr. Yulia Mariana Tesa Ayudia Putri, S.Si., M.Si., Assistant Manager for Student Achievement Development and Student Ecosystem; Sarini Abdullah, S.Si., M.Stats., Ph.D., Head of the Department of Mathematics; Dr. Windri Handayani, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Department of Biology; Rahmi Rusin, S.Si., M.Sc.Tech., Ph.D., Head of the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics; Bayu Ardiansah, S.Si., M.Si., D.Sc., Head of the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Chemistry; and Dr. Iqbal Putut Ash Shidiq, S.Si., M.Sc., Head of the Undergraduate Program in Geography.
This exploratory initiative is expected to serve as an initial step in strengthening the synergy between academic capacity and strategic defense needs, while also cultivating a new generation of scientific talent prepared to face national defense challenges in the digital era.
