Monday, February 14, 2022. The Research Center for Materials Science Unit of the Institute of Applied Science (RCMS LST) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), together with the Human Resources Development Agency for the Chemical Industry (BPSDMI), organized an upskilling training program for Chemical Analysts at KKNI Level 5 qualification for workers in the chemical industry. This program supports the government’s effort to produce competent human resources based on competencies in the industrial chemistry sector.
This activity, in collaboration with the Chemical Industry Professional Certification Institute (LSP KI), was held offline at the Multidisciplinary Building Hall, FMIPA UI, University of Indonesia Campus, Depok.
The training implementation is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Head of the Institute of Applied Science FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriyatna, M.Sc., and the Chairperson of the Steering Committee of LSP Kimia Industri, Dr. Mas Ayu Elita Hafizah, M.Si., on the same day.
In the cooperation agreement, FMIPA UI and LSP KI agreed to conduct various joint activities including the preparation of competency test materials in Industrial Chemistry based on the relevant Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI), the implementation of competency exams in Industrial Chemistry, designing various competency test materials in Industrial Chemistry, and developing a competency exam system that is user-friendly and cost-effective to capture the market.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., warmly welcomed this activity. In his speech, he said that all departments under FMIPA UI have various collaborations with external parties not only through tridharma (three pillars of higher education) activities but also other forms such as certification training programs.
“Therefore, we remain open to the possibility of further cooperation with BPSDMI and LSP KI, whether in terms of developing human resource capacity or activities that require facilities and capacities,” said Dede.
He added that this program aligns with FMIPA UI’s efforts to prepare competent graduates for the industry by providing facilities and experts who can serve as instructors.
“We at the university have also introduced the Diploma Supplement program (SKPI) for our recent graduates to be ready for the workforce. With competency-based curricula, we prepare prospective graduates with competencies that meet user needs,” he added.
On the same occasion, Rosita Ayuni, Training Cooperation Analyst representing the head of BPSDMI, explained that the upskilling training is aimed at industry workers to enhance their technical skills to a higher proficiency level.
“This training is expected to equip workers to achieve competencies for career advancement beyond their current positions in the industry,” Rosita said.
In agreement, Mas Ayu Elita Hafizah stated that the goal of this professional competency certification is to ensure that the competence acquired through learning, training, or work experience is officially recognized, where the implementation policy of competency certificates by the National Professional Certification Board (BNSP) across all sectors is mandated by Law No.13 of 2003.
“The involvement of associations, such as the Indonesian Chemical Industry Federation (FIKI), has successfully built a network among all stakeholders including users, regulators, and academics,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of LST, Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriyatna, M.Sc., encouraged anyone interested in self-development to take advantage of this opportunity.
“We have experts with various competencies that meet market needs, especially in the era of Industry 4.0,” concluded Prof. Jatna.
This upskilling training program was held from February 14 to 17, 2022, involving 30 participants and 2 instructors who are academics and practitioners from FMIPA UI. Training materials included the Management and Monitoring System for Used Chemicals, Laboratory Quality Management System Methodology, and Conventional vs. Instrumental Quantitative Analysis.
The training aims to prepare participants to take the competency test conducted by LSP KI on February 18, 2022.
Also present at the event were Prof. Dr. Azwar Manaf, M.Met., Chair of RCMS LST; Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs; and Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration.
