About FMIPA UI:
FMIPA UI was established in 1959 under the initial name of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Natural Sciences of the University of Indonesia (FIPIA UI) based in Bandung. Subsequently, UI planned the establishment of FIPIA based in Jakarta. To that end, the Department of Education, Teaching, and Culture at that time formed a team on May 18, 1960, chaired by Drs. Lauw Soan Keng with members including Prof.
Dr. G.A Siwabessy and Ir. Kuntoadji, along with several experts in Natural Sciences including Drs. S.A. Manus (Geology-UI-Bogor), Drs. Sri Sabani Soemartono (Botany–UI-Bogor), Dr. S. Soemadikarta (Zoology-UI-Bogor), Prof. Dr. Soemantri Brodjonegoro (Chemistry-ITB-Bandung), and several other experts. Based on the recommendations produced by the committee for the establishment of FIPIA UI, the Minister of Education, Teaching and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia issued Decree Number 108049/U.U dated December 21, 1960, concerning the establishment of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Indonesia Jakarta, opening four majors: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with Prof. Dr. G.A. Siwabessy appointed as the first Dean of FIPIA.
In its development, in 1982 the name FIPIA was then changed to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). This name change is stated in the Government Decision Number 27 of 1981 dated August 14, 1981, which was strengthened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Decision Number 44 of 1982 dated September 7, 1982, concerning the Organizational Structure of the University of Indonesia. Therefore, December 21 is designated as the anniversary of FMIPA UI, and on December 21, 2024, this year FMIPA UI will celebrate its 64th anniversary, and like in previous years, on that date FMIPA UI will commemorate it as the Dies Natalis of FMIPA UI.
