The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), through the Department of Geography, organized the annual Geography Pre-Excursion Study (PSEG) 2025 program, which was held from 16–18 January 2026 in Parakansalak, Sukabumi Regency, West Java.
This year, PSEG carried the theme “Stepping into a New Zone: Together with Nature, Strengthening Brotherhood, Building Our Home,” which reflects the spirit of geography students in embracing new, learning-rich experiences. The program emphasized the importance of nature as a learning space and a companion that teaches life values and sustainability, while also strengthening togetherness and fraternity among students.
PSEG 2025 was attended by students of the Department of Geography, Class of 2025. The program aimed to provide an initial overview of the Excursion Study and to directly introduce geographical objects of study through a field-based approach. In addition to academic aspects, PSEG also focused on character building, solidarity, and environmental responsibility, while developing skills in observation, spatial analysis, and teamwork.
The program was accompanied by five lecturers from the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI: Prof. Dr. Supriatna, M.T., Dr. Mangapul P.T., M.Si., Dr. Tjiong Giok Pin, M.Si., Dra. Astrid Damayanti, M.Si., and Dr. Taqyuddin, M.Hum. They provided guidance, character development, and ensured that all activities were conducted in line with the program’s objectives. In addition, members of the Department of Geography academic community—including lecturers, alumni, and senior students—were also present to introduce new students to the department’s academic environment and sense of family.
Throughout the program, participants took part in a series of activities such as departmental introductions, group dynamics sessions, and field activities focused on observing the physical and social environment. Parakansalak was selected as the location due to its relevant geographical characteristics as an initial learning medium, while also providing space for reflection on the importance of a harmonious relationship between humans and the environment.

The activity was also welcomed by the Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, who stated:
“PSEG is a very important first step for new students to understand the world of geography not only from books but also directly in the field. Hopefully, this activity will foster a spirit of learning, teamwork, and environmental responsibility in each participant.”
In addition, the Chair of the FMIPA UI Geography Alumni Association (Iluni Geografi) for the 2025–2030 period, Chriesty Elisabeth Lengkong, S.Si., M.Si., M.EEM., was also present and added:
“Through PSEG, new students can experience the value of togetherness and the extensive alumni network. I hope this experience becomes a strong foundation for them to grow into a generation of geographers who are competent and mindful of the environment and society.”
As part of the preparations, the PSEG committee underwent medical training and collected participants’ health history data to anticipate emergencies during the program. All participants were classified based on their health condition using a color-coded system: red bands for mild conditions and yellow bands for serious conditions.

The series of activities began with pre-event sessions, including group mentoring, physical exercises, and workshops. Participants were divided into 10 groups, each consisting of 11–12 members and accompanied by two mentors to facilitate guidance and teamwork development.
Over the three-day program (16–18 January 2026), the PSEG agenda included participant registration and mobilization, the 2025 Batch Orientation Night (Makrab), stations on physical geography, human geography, Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing (GIS/RS), GeoQuest activities, Alumni Orientation Night, batch-specific stations, and the 2025 Batch Inauguration. This series of activities was designed to equip new students with academic readiness, fieldwork skills, and a spirit of togetherness as a foundation for their education in the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI.
