FMIPA UI Holds the Seventh Week of UIGS X Starborn Mengajar 2025: Preparing Students to Enter the Professional World

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), held the seventh week of the UI Geoscience Seminar X Starborn Mengajar 2025 with the theme “Thriving After College: Building Your First Professional Path” on Monday (October 6). The event took place at the Prof. Dr. G.A. Siwabessy Auditorium, UI Campus, Depok, and was attended by 92 students from the Geology and Geophysics Study Programs.

The seminar featured Dicky Nugraha, MBA., M.S., Head of Sustainability & Corporate Communication at Dynapack Asia, as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, he discussed various career paths for graduates in earth sciences, ranging from industry and startups to the public sector and research. He also highlighted the importance of mental preparedness and soft skills in navigating the professional world.

“The professional world not only needs intelligent people but also those who are adaptive, communicative, and capable of working in a team,” said Dicky in front of the participants.

He added that English proficiency is a crucial factor for competing on a global level. “Technical skills alone are not enough. Companies today seek individuals who bring added value in terms of soft skills and global readiness,” said Dicky. “English is not just for passing selection processes but also for building networks and contributing more broadly.”

The event was opened by the Head of the Geology Study Program at FMIPA UI, Dr. Reza Syahputra, M.Si., who emphasized the importance of this activity in bridging the academic world and the professional sphere.

“We want to ensure that students are not only academically excellent but also prepared to compete and make a real contribution in the professional world,” he said.

The session continued with an interactive discussion on professional personal branding, particularly through LinkedIn. Some students courageously showcased their LinkedIn profiles for direct review by the speaker. Dicky provided technical advice on how to strategically highlight experiences, achievements, and skills. Students who actively participated in this session received appreciation prizes from the committee.

The Q&A session was dynamic. Students asked questions about writing a professional CV, strategies to increase visibility on LinkedIn, and dilemmas about whether to continue studying or enter the workforce directly.

As a closing, the committee presented a plaque of appreciation to the speaker and captured the moment with a group photo of all participants. Through this seminar, FMIPA UI hopes that students can prepare themselves comprehensively to face post-campus challenges.
