Depok, July 10, 2026 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Universitas Indonesia once again hosted The 6th Life and Environmental Sciences Academics Forum (LEAF) 2026 on Wednesday–Thursday (July 8–9, 2026) at the Prof. Dr. Ir. Soemantri Brodjonegoro Hall. This international conference served as a platform for academics, researchers, and students from various institutions to present research findings, exchange knowledge, and strengthen scientific collaborations in addressing global environmental and health challenges.
The organization of LEAF 2026 was driven by the growing global challenges in the fields of environment and health, including climate change, environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, pollution, the emergence of new diseases, and limited natural resources. These challenges require integrated scientific approaches, technological innovations, and cross-disciplinary collaborations to develop sustainable solutions for the environment and public health.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., stated that LEAF 2026 reflects FMIPA UI’s commitment to fostering a research collaboration ecosystem that brings together academics, researchers, and students from various disciplines and countries.
“Through LEAF, we aim to strengthen FMIPA UI’s role as a hub for scientific collaboration that generates science-based research and innovations to address environmental and health challenges,” said Prof. Tito.

He hopes that LEAF will not only serve as a forum for sharing research findings but also encourage the development of research networks and collaborations that create tangible impacts on sustainable development.
“We hope this forum will foster sustainable collaborations, strengthen joint publications and innovations, and provide meaningful contributions to society,” said Prof. Tito.
The Chair of the LEAF 2026 Organizing Committee, Tety Maryenti, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated that this year’s conference carried the theme “Emerging Scientific Innovations and Technologies for Sustainable Environment and Health,” reflecting efforts to promote multidisciplinary research in support of environmental sustainability and the improvement of human health.
“Through this theme, LEAF 2026 is designed as a platform where various disciplines can come together to share research findings, expand networks, and foster collaborations that generate solutions for environmental and health issues,” said Tety.
She added that the enthusiasm of participants from various universities and research institutions demonstrates the importance of scientific forums that bring researchers together to exchange ideas and strengthen cross-institutional collaborations.
“Participation from various institutions demonstrates the growing need for scientific collaboration to address increasingly complex challenges,” she added.

The conference featured five keynote speakers, namely Prof. Sung-Yeon Jang from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea; Prof. Sanjay Swarup, Ph.D., from the National University of Singapore; Prof. Hiroshi Kimura, Ph.D., from the Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan; Prof. Anom Bowolaksono, Ph.D., from FMIPA UI; and Prof. Alexander McLellan, Ph.D., from the University of Otago, New Zealand.
In addition, nine invited speakers contributed to various scientific sessions, representing institutions such as the School of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (STMKG), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Padjadjaran, Institut Teknologi Bandung, and Universitas Gadjah Mada.
During the two-day implementation of LEAF 2026, researchers from various universities and research institutions, both domestic and international, presented their latest research findings and scientific innovations developed at their respective institutions. These innovations covered green technology and nanotechnology for environmental applications, environmental monitoring and data analysis, health research, and earth sciences, which are expected to provide science-based solutions to global environmental and health challenges.

The research findings were presented through keynote sessions, invited speaker sessions, as well as oral paper and poster presentations. The topics discussed included Environmental Monitoring, Modelling, Data Analysis, and Assessment; Green Technology and Nanotechnology for Environmental Applications; Health and Well-being; and Earth and Environmental Sciences.
LEAF 2026 was attended by 47 participants from various institutions in Indonesia and abroad. A total of 37 participants presented scientific papers, while 10 participants took part in poster presentation sessions.
Participants came from various institutions, including the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Universitas Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Mulawarman, Universitas Padjadjaran, Yayasan Planet Urgensi Indonesia, and the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Japan. The forum was also attended by undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, as well as researchers from government institutions.
Through the organization of LEAF 2026, FMIPA UI continues to strengthen its role as a platform for interdisciplinary and international scientific collaboration, fostering the development of research, innovation, and science-based solutions to support environmental sustainability and health.

Budi Wiweko, Sp.O.G., Subsp. F.E.R., MPH, Int. Aff. RANZCOG (Hons), FICRM; Acting Rector of Universitas Pertamina/Professor at FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr.techn. Djoko Triyono; Vice Dean for Resources, Entrepreneurship, and General Administration, Prof. Dr. Ivandini Tribidasari A., S.Si., M.Si.; and Representative from the Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan, Prof. Yoshinori Ohsumi, Ph.D.
