Saturday (26/03/2022) The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) participated in the UI Virtual SBMPTN Info Days 2022. The presence of FMIPA UI at the event was to introduce study programs (prodi), lecture activities, and graduate prospects for prospective undergraduate students throughout Indonesia.
Present as a speaker at the FMIPA UI virtual booth, Rika Tri Yunarti, Ph. D. as the Education Manager to deliver a presentation on the materials. Rika opened the presentation by explaining about the study programs held by FMIPA UI starting from undergraduate to postgraduate levels along with the national and international accreditations that the study programs have obtained.
“Several study programs at FMIPA UI have obtained international accreditation. National accreditation from BAN-PT is indeed an obligation to obtain. Several of our study programs have superior status, and most of them are A”, said Rika.
Although there are still several study programs that still have B accreditation status, Rika said that FMIPA UI is currently still trying to improve it to become superior.
In addition, international accreditation bodies that have provided certification to FMIPA UI are AUN QA for the Bachelor of Chemistry, Bachelor of Statistics, Bachelor of Mathematics, and Bachelor of Physics study programs, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for the Bachelor of Chemistry study program. And in the near future, the assessment results from the Akkreditierungsagentur fur Studiengange der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN) will follow, a German-based accreditation institution for four Bachelor’s study programs, namely Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Geography.
“This year, there are four study programs that are in the process of obtaining ASIIN international accreditation, last month we just underwent a visitation by the ASIIN team for the four study programs, and we will receive the results in the near future, hopefully the results are as expected,” said a chemistry lecturer with expertise in Inorganic Chemistry, material chemistry itu.
On the same occasion, he also explained the capacity of new students for the 2022/2023 academic year from all Regular (SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and SIMAK UI) and Parallel (PPKB, and SIMAK UI) entry routes, as well as the tightness of each regular S1 study program from each entry route.
“For the regular path this year, the quota for SNMPTN is 20%, SBMPTN 30%, and SIMAK 50%. While the parallel is PPKB and SIMAK each 50%. So please take this opportunity as best as possible according to your interests”. he added.
Since the implementation of the Independent Learning Independent Campus Curriculum (MBKM) policy in 2020 by the government, FMIPA UI has implemented various activity programs as a form of implementation in supporting the policy. Among them, credit earning MOOCs based (Massive Open Online Courses) through four undergraduate study programs, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, as well as the Internship Program and Certified Independent Study in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
“Since MBKM was implemented, in 2020 all study programs were asked to create an independent curriculum that implements the curriculum Outcomes-Based Education (OBE). This OBE learning that is seen is the learning process during the study period, so that students are really monitored to be able to develop their potential, so that they are ready to face the world of work”, said the education manager explaining the implementation and objectives of MBKM.
Before closing the presentation session, Rika gave an overview of career opportunities for FMIPA UI graduates, especially in the era of industry 4.0. As graduates from the scientific field that is the forerunner of technological progress, FMIPA UI graduates have broad job prospects.
“Fields that require the role of scientists in the era of industry 4.0 include: Data Analyst, Big Data Architect, Software Engineer, Market researcher, and of course there are many more,” he said.
He also emphasized that in the future the fields of job opportunities will be digital-based. So that FMIPA UI graduates are required to not only have hard skills saja tapi juga soft skills like complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, cognitive flexibility, And emotional intelligence.
“Indeed, this ability is developed through MBKM, so it is very important for students to have knowledge not only from what is learned in the study program, but they must also have the skills to hone their skills. soft skills” said the graduate of the University of Science and Technology (UST) – Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), South Korea.
The UI Virtual SBMPTN Info Days activity began on March 25, 2022. The series of activities on the first day consisted of a speech by UI Chancellor Prof. Ari Kuncoro, SE., MA., Ph.D., Explanation of the 2022 SBMPTN UTBK System by the Executive Chair of LTMPT Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, DESS., DEA., Socialization of the 2022 New Student Admissions System by the Head of the UI PMB Office Dr. Gunawan, ST., MT., and ended with a question and answer session with the resource persons.
Meanwhile, the series of activities on the second day were filled with socialization about study programs, lecture activities, lecture facilities, academic and non-academic collaborations, and graduate prospects at each faculty’s virtual booth.
