FMIPA UI Launches Unique Camp with an Educational Tourism Concept at Rinjani Scout Ground

Mount Rinjani is a favorite among climbers and is a popular tourist destination in Indonesia, a must-visit for nature lovers, alongside Mount Semeru. Mount Rinjani attracts not only local tourists but also international visitors.

There are three hiking trails to Mount Rinjani. However, the most popular route to Indonesia’s second-highest volcano is via Sembalun Village. Sembalun Village offers natural beauty that will delight both climbers and tourists who pass through. Furthermore, there are cafes, hotels, and more. camping ground The road to Mount Rinjani is starting to get busy, and the stretch of farmland at the foot of the mountain adds to the captivating landscape. Unfortunately, there are still very few tourist attractions in Sembalun that offer an integrated approach between travel agents, accommodation facilities, and agricultural education. Therefore, the Bumi Kepanduan Rinjani Community Service Team, led by Windya Fajira (Biology 2019), in collaboration with the Pandu Cendekia Foundation, introduced the Bumi Kepanduan Rinjani program as a Rinjani Tourist Camping Area and Community Prosperity Accelerator to the local community in Sembalun Village, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday, August 6, 2022. The activity was fully supported by the Directorate of Student Affairs (Dirmawa) of the University of Indonesia.

Under the guidance of two lecturers from the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), Dr. Ratna Yuniarti and Dr. Retno Lestari, Windya and her team proposed a camping concept combined with agrotourism and educational tourism. The team also involved local residents in the construction of the Bumi Kepanduan Rinjani tents.

“This concept offers tourists the opportunity to spend the night, enjoy the beauty of Sembalun, while directly observing the activities of the village farmers. Tourists can even participate in harvesting activities with farmers during the harvest season, or learn how to farm from the farmers in Sembalun Village,” said Windya to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.

One of the local residents and farmers in Sembalun, Armasih, welcomed this unique camping concept with an educational tourism concept.Camping with this concept can provide a more enjoyable experience for tourists, so he hopes that more tourists will be interested in visiting Sembalun Village.

“I think Bumi Kepanduan Rinjani is a camping ground with an interesting concept. This is because it not only provides accommodation but also provides a place for tourists to learn directly from farmers, making it a fun experience for both tourists and farmers,” said Armasih.

The team hopes that the Rinjani Scouting Earth will have a positive impact on the economy of the residents of Sembalun Village.
