Depok, March 2, 2026. A lecturer from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), Dr. Dipo Aldila, S.Si., M.Si., has been awarded the UI International Short Course Grant 2025/2026 (EQUITY) Batch 2. The official announcement was delivered on February 13, 2026, by the Director of Educational Internationalization at Universitas Indonesia, Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC. This achievement underscores FMIPA UI’s role in expanding global academic networks and promoting collaborative research to address sustainable development challenges.
Dr. Dipo will organize a short course entitled “Integrating Mathematical Modelling and AI for Public Health and Environmental Challenges” on June 7–14, 2026, at the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UI, Depok Campus. The program is designed to introduce the integration of mathematical modelling with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to address complex issues in public health and environmental sectors.
“The integration of mathematical modelling and AI is becoming increasingly important in addressing health and environmental issues. This short course equips participants with the skills to develop accurate models,” said Dr. Dipo.
Participants will learn to develop epidemiological and ecological models based on differential equations to understand disease transmission dynamics and ecosystem interactions. In addition to classical mechanistic approaches, the course will also cover AI/ML techniques for pattern analysis, parameter estimation, and system prediction. Emphasis will be placed on hybrid models that combine mathematical interpretability with data-driven learning capabilities.
Dr. Dipo added that international collaboration is key to strengthening the academic quality and research network of FMIPA UI. “The presence of international students and collaboration with Universiti Malaya enriches scholarly perspectives while opening opportunities for evidence-based research,” he stated. International participation has currently been confirmed with the Mathematical Institute Universiti Malaya.
Promoting Global Competitiveness and Human Resource Capacity
The UI International Short Course Grant 2025/2026 (EQUITY) is part of the commitment of Universitas Indonesia to support its strategic Global Competitiveness program. Through the EQUITY – World Class University (WCU) 2025/2026 grant, UI encourages an increase in the number of international students participating in credit-bearing academic activities. This program provides financial support to study programs that organize credit-earning short courses (a minimum of 1 credit/SKS) for international students. Activities may be conducted on-site at UI or in a blended format, with materials covering lectures, introductions to the Indonesian language and culture, as well as industry visits. All courses must be registered in the academic system (SIAK NG) and formalized through a Dean’s Decree (SK) regarding the Credit-Bearing Course Plan (RPP Berkredit).
The program funding is sourced from the EQUITY (Enhancing Quality Education for International University Recognition) WCU 2025/2026 budget, derived from the Higher Education Endowment Fund (Dana Abadi Perguruan Tinggi/DAPT) managed by the Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) and administered by Universitas Indonesia. Through this program, UI aims to increase the number of inbound international students and lecturers with recognized academic credits. Each funded short course is required to enroll a minimum of 15 international students and five UI students.
International participants are prioritized from overseas universities ranked within the top 200 of the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR 200). In addition to enriching the academic experience of UI students and broadening global perspectives in the learning process, the program is also expected to contribute to the improvement of internationalization indicators, such as the International Student Ratio, International Student Diversity, and International Faculty Ratio. This initiative further supports the strengthening of UI’s reputation in global rankings, including the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
