FMIPA UI Professor Supports Indonesian National Police Research and Development Center Research in East Nusa Tenggara, Bringing a Data Security Perspective to Public Policy

Depok, June 15, 2026 – Professor of Data Security from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), Prof. Dr. Drs. Suryadi, M.T., participated in a research and supervision program organized by the Research and Development Center of the Indonesian National Police (Puslitbang Polri) in the jurisdiction of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (NTT Police) from June 2–5, 2026.

The activity was part of a national research project focusing on the optimization of the Indonesian National Police’s special crowd-control equipment (alat material khusus or almatsus Dalmas) for handling demonstrations with the potential for conflict, as well as strengthening the role of the Indonesian National Police in supporting the national food security program.

As part of the research, Prof. Suryadi joined a team responsible for data collection, field observations, focus group discussions (FGDs), and the evaluation of policy implementation and operational support facilities for policing activities in East Nusa Tenggara. The team conducted visits to several regional police units, including the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTT), Kupang City Police (Polresta Kupang Kota), Kupang Police (Polres Kupang), North Central Timor Police (Polres Timor Tengah Utara/TTU), and South Central Timor Police (Polres Timor Tengah Selatan/TTS).

Prof. Suryadi’s involvement reflects FMIPA UI’s commitment to supporting evidence-based and data-driven decision-making. As an academic specializing in data security, cryptography, and information systems, he contributed valuable perspectives on data management, information analysis, and the formulation of policy recommendations that are more measurable, transparent, and accountable.

“In the era of digital transformation, the quality of public policy is largely determined by the quality of the data and the analytical processes that underpin it. A scientific approach is essential to ensure that every recommendation produced not only addresses current needs but also anticipates future challenges,” said Prof. Suryadi.

According to him, the application of scientific knowledge and computational sciences is becoming increasingly important in supporting decision-making across various strategic sectors.

“This is where the fields of data security, analytics, and systems modeling play a crucial role in supporting the formulation of public policies that are more effective, measurable, and evidence-based,” he said.

According to him, collaboration between universities and government institutions is becoming increasingly important amid the growing complexity of challenges faced by society. Research that brings together multiple disciplines enables the development of more comprehensive, evidence-based solutions.

This activity also demonstrates the relevance of FMIPA UI’s academic DNA, which is rooted in strengthening the foundations of science, mathematics, computing, and data analytics to address real-world challenges faced by society. Through this approach, FMIPA UI not only advances scientific knowledge but also contributes to the development of strategic solutions for various sectors, including security and public governance.

Prof. Suryadi’s participation in the research conducted by the Research and Development Center of the Indonesian National Police (Puslitbang Polri) represents a tangible example of FMIPA UI academics’ role in bridging scientific knowledge with the needs of national development. The findings of this research are expected to enhance the quality of public services, improve the effectiveness of security policies, and support the sustainable implementation of the government’s strategic programs.
