Depok, September 12, 2025 – Professor of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Prof. Supriyanto Ardjo Pawiro, M.Si., Ph.D., has received international recognition through the prestigious Fellow of the International Organization for Medical Physics (FIOMP) 2025 award, which he was recently granted. The award was officially announced by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) on September 9, 2025, through its official website.
The FIOMP award was granted as a recognition of Prof. Supriyanto’s outstanding contributions to the advancement of medical physics at the global level, particularly through his dedication and active role in IOMP and its regional organization, the Southeast Asian Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (SEAFOMP). His nomination was submitted by the President of SEAFOMP, Prof. Dr. Chai Hong Yeong.
As a recipient of FIOMP, Prof. Supriyanto—fondly known as Prof. Supri—is entitled to use the FIOMP title after his name, as well as receive an honorary certificate and pin. A brief profile highlighting the contributions of the FIOMP awardees will be published in e-Medical Physics World (eMPW), the official publication of IOMP.
“This award does not belong to me alone, but also to the community of medical physicists in Indonesia. I hope this achievement can inspire the younger generation to continue advancing this field both nationally and internationally,” said Prof. Supri in an interview at the UI Campus, Depok.
National and International Contributions
Prof. Supri is recognized as one of the central figures in the development of the medical physicist profession in Indonesia. Some of his key contributions include:
- Founded and served as President of the Indonesian Association of Medical Physicists (AFISMI) for two terms (2015–2024).
- Designed a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system and a re-registration mechanism for medical physicists.
- Involved in drafting professional standards and licensing regulations through the Ministry of Health and BAPETEN (Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency).
- Established the AFISMI Headquarters and pioneered the Master’s Program in Medical Physics as well as the Professional Education Program for Medical Physicists at FMIPA UI and Diponegoro University.
Moreover, through his contributions, FMIPA UI has also become a pioneer in developing medical physics curricula at the undergraduate, master’s, and professional levels. His active involvement in the National Health Transformation program has further strengthened FMIPA UI’s position as a strategic partner of the government in technology-based healthcare.
At the international level, Prof. Supri holds several strategic positions, including:
- Secretary-General of SEAFOMP for eight years.
- Member of the Education & Training Committee at AFOMP and IOMP.
- National Counterpart for five IAEA projects and member of the national team in various other IAEA projects.
- Involved in a national DAAD project in the field of medical physics education and research.
- Supervised international students from developing countries such as Cambodia and Zimbabwe.
This has also reinforced FMIPA UI’s position as a center of excellence in medical physics education and research in the Southeast Asian region.
Commitment to Global Collaboration
As part of efforts to strengthen human resource capacity in medical physics, Prof. Supri has consistently promoted professional certification, enhanced radiation safety in healthcare services, and fostered international partnerships to support capacity building in developing countries.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for Prof. Supri’s achievement.
“Prof. Supri is one of the greatest assets of FMIPA UI. This award is proof that FMIPA UI is capable of producing academics with global contributions. We are proud of him and fully support his role on the international stage,” said Prof. Dede.
