Four FMIPA UI PKM Teams Secure National Funding, Advancing Innovations in Healthcare and Sustainable Energy

Depok, July 7, 2026 — Four student proposals from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), have secured funding under the 2026 Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa/PKM). The results were officially announced by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, through the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), on May 22, 2026. This achievement reflects the competitiveness of FMIPA UI students in developing research-based, innovative ideas aimed at addressing real-world challenges.

The four funded proposals represent several PKM categories, namely PKM-Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC), PKM-Research in Exact Sciences (PKM-RE), and PKM-Community Service (PKM-PM). The projects were developed by interdisciplinary student teams from across Universitas Indonesia, with FMIPA UI serving as one of the participating faculties.

Under the PKM-Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC) scheme, the proposal titled “Deep-BioOrtho: Integrating Deep Learning CNNs for Designing Bioorthogonal Reactions to Enable Precision Intracellular Lung Cancer Drug Activation with Minimal Side Effects” was selected for funding. The team is led by Reza Nur Ikhsan (Chemistry), with members Hafiz Rizky Ramadhani (Chemistry), Sulthan Raju Salim (Chemistry), Afyah Chayrani (Chemistry), and Shofiy Falihah Utami (Chemistry). The project is supervised by Pugoh Santoso, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Eng., from the Department of Chemistry.

Another funded project was awarded under the PKM-Research in Exact Sciences (PKM-RE) scheme, titled “Synthesis of Graphene Oxide Films via Environmentally Friendly Partially Reduced Electrodeposition for Humidity-Driven Electricity Generation.” The team is led by Putri Rahmadani Setiawan (Chemistry), with members Putri Hannum Salsabilah (Chemistry), Nayla Raihana Insyiroh (Chemistry), and Sarah Afina Anwar (Chemistry). The project is supervised by Zico Alaia Akbar Junior, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., from the Department of Chemistry.

From the Department of Physics, a PKM-Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC) team also secured funding with its project titled “ADEM: A Prototype of a Modular Passive Cooling System Based on Subsoil Heat Exchange for Improved Indoor Energy Efficiency.” The team is led by Abdurrasyid Dzaki Amir (Physics), with members Satria Erlangga Munggaran (Physics), Michael Gianvittorio Siringoringo (Physics), Steven Anthony Suhartoyo (Physics), and Muhammad Rayhan Pasha Nuruddin (Physics). The project is supervised by Syahril Siregar, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., from the Department of Physics.

Meanwhile, an interdisciplinary student team secured funding under the PKM-Community Service (PKM-PM) scheme with the project titled “Janji Esok Hari: An Emotional Coaching–Based Emotion Regulation Assistance Program to Enhance the Self-Esteem of Fatherless Adolescents at the Class I Tangerang Juvenile Correctional Institution (LPKA).” The team is led by Dirga Setiawan (Geophysics), with members Listi Khoirunisa (Occupational Therapy), Puspa Ayu Pandu Tirta (Law), Agung Dwi P. (Media Production), and Safa Syifa E. R. (Psychology). The project is supervised by Dr. Eko Handayani, M.Psi., Psikolog, from the Faculty of Psychology.

Prof. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., Dean of FMIPA UI, expressed his appreciation to all students who successfully secured funding under the 2026 Student Creativity Program (PKM). According to him, this achievement reflects the ability of UI students to develop creative, research-based ideas that are both scientifically grounded and relevant to the needs of society.

“We hope that students’ creative ideas will align with national development priorities and contribute to addressing the challenges currently being tackled by the government,” said Prof. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si.

He added that the success of the PKM teams also highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Although several teams comprised students from different faculties, they worked together as part of a single academic community—Universitas Indonesia.

“Cross-faculty collaboration is one of our greatest strengths. By bringing together diverse academic perspectives, our students are able to develop more comprehensive innovations as part of Universitas Indonesia’s contribution to society,” said Prof. Tito.

The Dean of FMIPA UI also expressed his appreciation to the faculty supervisors for their guidance throughout the process, from refining students’ ideas and preparing their proposals to ensuring the projects were ready for implementation. He emphasized that this mentorship plays a vital role in helping transform students’ innovative ideas into initiatives with tangible societal impact.

Through students’ participation in the Student Creativity Program (PKM), FMIPA UI continues to encourage the younger generation to develop innovations that not only demonstrate academic excellence but also create meaningful benefits for society.

The Student Creativity Program (PKM) is a flagship student development initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, designed to foster the creativity, critical thinking, and innovative capabilities of Indonesian students. Through a competitive, accountable, and transparent funding mechanism, PKM provides a platform for Diploma III (D-3), Diploma IV (D-4), and Undergraduate (S-1) students at universities across Indonesia to develop innovative, solution-oriented projects.

At the final stage of the program, the best PKM projects will be presented at the National Student Scientific Week (Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional/PIMNAS), a prestigious national scientific event that serves as a platform for recognizing student achievements while fostering collaboration through the presentation of their most outstanding innovations.

As part of the program requirements, students who receive PKM funding are also required to produce supporting outputs through their team’s official social media platforms. These channels serve to disseminate information, share educational content, and provide updates on the progress and implementation of their projects to the wider community.

The 2026 PKM proposals were developed around ten strategic themes: food, energy, and water security; public health and nutrition; corruption prevention and eradication; poverty alleviation; drug prevention and eradication; the advancement of education, science, and technology; the promotion of gender equality and the protection of the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities; environmental conservation and disaster mitigation; equitable economic development, MSME empowerment, and the development of Indonesia’s New Capital City (IKN); and the preservation of arts and culture alongside the growth of the creative economy.

Following the funding announcement, the student teams will proceed through several stages of program implementation. Phase I, covering project implementation and progress reporting, will take place from May to September 2026. Phase II, which includes evaluation, awards, and the submission of final reports, is scheduled for September to October 2026. The program will culminate in Phase III with the 2026 National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS), to be held from October to November 2026.

The official announcement of student teams selected to participate in the 39th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS 39) is scheduled for October 12–13, 2026. Meanwhile, the 2026 National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) is planned to take place at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) from November 2–7, 2026.
