The Selection Committee for the 2023 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) at the University of Indonesia (UI) level has announced the results of the first stage of selection on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Meanwhile, the initial selection stage at the UI level itself was carried out online on Saturday (8/4/2023) involving 90 student participants from across faculties within the UI environment.

The results of the initial selection stage aim to select the five best students from each of the competing fields of study, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

The best participants will then proceed to the next stage, namely the regional selection, which will be held online from May 22-25, 2023.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., explained that to prepare participants for the regional stage, the faculty provides support in the form of intensive guidance from internal lecturers who are also experts in the fields of study being competed. This, the Dean said, allows participants to face the regional stage with greater competitiveness and confidence.

“As a form of support for the UI contingent, FMIPA UI provides intensive training provided by lecturers and experts from FMIPA UI, the hope is that they will be more competitive and confident,” said the Dean.

The guidance and training were provided to participants for 18 days, from May 3-20, 2023. The training included lectures related to the competition’s material, practice questions, and guidance from accomplished seniors who have won medals at similar olympiads. The lecturers, with expertise in their respective fields, were appointed as trainers: Dr. Adam Badra Cahaya (Physics), Dr. Iman Abdullah (Chemistry), Dr. Putri Zahra Kamila (Mathematics), and Dr. Ratna Yuniati (Biology).

ONMIPA-PT is one of the higher education talent event activities organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center, National Achievement Center, Secretariat General, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, to develop student creativity and innovation in the fields of Mathematics and Science.
