Welcome to the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA Universitas Indonesia!
We warmly welcome students, prospective students, academic collaborators, and partners from within Indonesia and abroad to the official website of the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA Universitas Indonesia.
Our department is recognized as a leading chemistry institution in Indonesia, with top rankings from Edurank in both 2023 and 2024. We hold international accreditation from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in the UK for our undergraduate and master’s programs, and our doctoral (S3) program, currently accredited as “unggul” (excellent) domestically, is in the process of obtaining international accreditation from ASIIN.
Our lecturers and researchers, both young and senior generation, are renowned for their outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry. With a strong international publication, they have gained recognition for their research and expertise globally, enhancing the department’s impact and fostering a rich environment for academic and professional development.
At the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA Universitas Indonesia, we pride ourselves not only on conducting impactful research but also on providing a strong academic education that prepares students to meet the challenges of the future. Our education focuses on both the theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry, with an emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. This combination of robust academic training and cutting-edge research equips our students to excel in various scientific and industrial careers.
Our research spans a wide array of topics, including advanced materials, nanoparticles, electrochemistry and electroanalysis, photoelectrocatalysis, environmental analytical chemistry, and chemical toxicology.
Additionally, we focus on separation chemistry, material elucidation, and the synthesis and application of polymers. Our separation chemistry research aims to develop new techniques for efficient separation and purification processes, while material elucidation involves studying the structure and properties of materials to unlock new applications. In the field of polymer chemistry, we synthesize and apply polymers for diverse uses, from sustainable materials to innovative biomedical applications.
We are also at the forefront of organometallic chemistry, exploring the interactions between metals and organic molecules. Our work in this area is crucial for advancing catalytic processes, energy storage, and new materials development.
Our research in biomolecular technology, lipids, enzymatic engineering, natural products, and organic synthesis continues to drive advancements in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, green chemistry, and sustainable practices. Furthermore, we explore developments in catalysis and Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), which hold significant potential for applications in purification, energy storage, and environmental protection.
In addition to our strong academic foundation, we maintain robust research and academic collaborations with leading international universities across the UK, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia, including prestigious institutions in Malaysia and Singapore. These collaborations facilitate the exchange of knowledge, enhance the quality of our research, and provide our students with unique opportunities for global exposure and learning.
We are also very keen to expand and strengthen our collaborations with other leading academic and industrial institutions in the future. By fostering new partnerships, we aim to further enhance the impact of our research and educational programs and to contribute to solving global challenges.
