Tujuan dari kunjungan ini adalah untuk memperkenalkan RIKEN dan kegiatan penelitian mereka kepada fakultas-fakultas di UI atas dasar Nota Kesepahaman (MoU) dengan Universitas Indonesia, dan meminta dukungan dari tujuan RIKEN itu sendiri yaitu untuk memperluas kolaborasi internasional dalam ilmu material. Selain itu, mereka juga menginformasikan tentang Kantor Perwakilan RIKEN di Singapura sebagai kantor luar negeri pertama RIKEN yang akan mengkoordinasikan pertukaran penelitian dan kolaborasi antara RIKEN dan negara-negara Asia Tenggara. Di Indonesia, RIKEN telah membentuk&nbsp;<em>parternship&nbsp;<\/em>dengan lima universitas terkemuka termasuk UI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hadir sebagai delegasi RIKEN yakni<strong>Prof. Isao Watanabe<\/strong>RIKEN Nishina Pusat Sains Accelerator-Based<strong>, Mr. Genichi Tuzawa<\/strong>, Direktur Kantor Perwakilan RIKEN Singapura, dan<strong>Mr. Takuo Ohata<\/strong>, Deputi Direktur Kantor Perwakilan RIKEN Singapura. Sedangkan pihak FMIPA UI adalah<strong>Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris<\/strong>, Dekan FMIPA UI<strong>, Drs. Ridla Bakri, M.Phil, Ph.D<\/strong>, Wakil Dekan Bidang I FMIPA UI<strong>, Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., MS<\/strong>Manager Ventura dan Alumni Hubungan FMIPA UI<strong>, Dr. Budhy Kurniawan<\/strong>&nbsp;,&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>M.Si<\/strong>dosen dan peneliti di Departemen Fisika, dan<strong>Dr. rer. nat. Agus Salam, S.Si., M.Si.<\/strong>dari Departemen Fisika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalam kesempatan ini, RIKEN membahas kerjasama lebih lanjut dalam ilmu bahan dengan FMIPA UI. Selain itu, mereka juga menawarkan program yang disebut IPA (International Associate Program), di mana kandidat doktor non-Jepang menghadiri sekolah pascasarjana Jepang atau luar negeri yang berpartisipasi dalam program pascasarjana bersama RIKEN. IPA melakukan penelitian di RIKEN di bawah pengawasan para ilmuwan RIKEN untuk membantu mereka mendapatkan gelar<em>Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)<\/em>. Program ini telah berjalan selama 9 tahun dan memberikan bantuan biaya hidup dan tempat tinggal selama 3 tahun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RIKEN adalah lembaga penelitian terbesar di Jepang yang komprehensif terkenal untuk penelitian berkualitas tinggi dalam berbagai disiplin ilmu.
