Sebagai universitas terbaik di Indonesia versi UI GreenMetric 2022, Universitas Indonesia (UI) berkomitmen untuk terus menjaga kualitas lingkungan kampus, termasuk menjaga kelestarian biodiversitas yang hidup di danau UI. Di area kampus Depok, UI memiliki enam danau buatan, yakni Danau Kenanga, Danau Aghatis, Danau Mahoni, Danau Puspa, Danau Ulin, dan Danau Salam, atau yang sering disingkat dengan KAMPUS. Keenam danau tersebut berperan untuk melestarikan keanekaragaman hayati serta menyediakan suplai air bersih bagi hewan-hewan yang hidup di wilayah kampus UI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tak hanya berfungsi sebagai habitat beragam biota, danau buatan UI juga berfungsi sebagai resapan air yang tidak hanya bermanfaat bagi UI, tetapi juga untuk wilayah Depok. Keberadaan danau di wilayah UI mendukung environmental carrying capacity wilayah Depok yang dapat mengurangi dampak banjir saat musim hujan dan memberikan suplai air saat kekeringan. Selain itu, danau UI juga turut berkontribusi dalam mengatur kondisi iklim mikro di Kota Depok dalam kaitannya dengan siklus hidrologi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meski begitu, untuk menjaga stabilitas fungsi danau UI, ada beberapa permasalahan yang harus dihadapi. Beberapa di antaranya adalah pencemaran air danau, pendangkalan danau akibat endapan lumpur hasil segmentasi yang bersumber dari lingkungan sekitar, pertumbuhan gulma air, pertumbuhan alga akibat pencemaran limbah, serta masuknya biota invasif sehingga memengaruhi habitat biodiversitas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guna mencari solusi atas permasalahan tersebut, Unit Pelaksana Teknis (UPT) Keselamatan Kesehatan Kerja (K3L) UI menyelenggarakan kegiatan \u201cMonitoring Evaluasi Konservasi Ekosistem Perairan Tawar di Lingkungan Kampus UI\u201d, pada Kamis (19\/10), di Ruang Auditorium, Gedung ILRC UI. Kegiatan tersebut menghadirkan dua dosen dari Departemen Biologi, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA) UI, yakni Drs. Erwin Nurdin, M.Si., dan Drs. Wisnu Wardhana, M.Si.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Menurut Erwin, pencemaran air adalah salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi kesehatan ekosistem perairan. Pencemaran pada perairan danau UI disebabkan oleh adanya aktivitas manusia di luar lingkungan UI, seperti adanya pembuangan limbah dari bengkel atau pelepasan pestisida dari pertanian dan zat-zat kimia lainnya yang masuk ke danau. Hal tersebut menyebabkan rusaknya ekosistem yang ada di danau yang berdampak pada beragam biota yang hidup di dalamnya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Padahal, menurut Wisnu, terdapat 31 jenis ikan yang hidup di danau UI. Jika kondisi pencemaran tersebut terus berlangsung, ada kekhawatiran terjadi penurunan populasi beberapa jenis fauna, seperti keong mas dan kerang yang kini telah hilang. \u201cSaat ini, ikan sapu-sapu menjadi jenis fauna yang mendominasi perairan danau UI,\u201d ujar Wisnu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Untuk menjaga dan melestarikan ekosistem perairan tawar, Wisnu mengungkapkan bahwa UI kini telah melakukan berbagai upaya. Pertama, mencegah pelepasliaran jenis ikan. Kedua, membatasi penyebaran dan mengisolasi ikan invasif dengan mengutamakan pemeliharaan ikan asli. Ketiga, melakukan restorasi perairan yang sudah terkontaminasi atau rusak, serta melarang pemeliharaan ikan invasif di lingkungan UI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kegiatan konservasi ekosistem air tawar tersebut merupakan upaya UI untuk menjaga keberlanjutan ekosistem. Hal ini berhubungan erat dengan poin-poin yang ada dalam Sustainable Deveopment Goals (SDGs). Fokus kegiatan konservasi yang ada pada poin ke-15 Life on Land ternyata berpengaruh terhadap poin SDGs lainnya, yaitu poin ke-6 Clean Water and Sanitation, poin ke-13 Climate Action, dan poin ke-14 Life Below Water.
