Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari gabungan mata kuliah Vulkanologi dan Geologi Kebencanaan yang mereka ambil pada semester ini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalam kuliah lapangan tersebut mereka dipandu oleh Dr. Ir. Igan Sutawidjaja, M.Sc. tim Pengamatan Gunung Guntur milik Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) yang juga merupakan bagian dari tim pemetaan Gunungapi Guntur untuk melakukan serangkaian observasi material erupsi yang berada tepat di sisa aliran lava Gunung Guntur di sekitar wilayah Tarogong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M. Rizqy Septyandy selaku dosen pendamping mengatakan, kegiatan ini dilakukan untuk memberikan gambaran nyata di lapangan kepada para mahasiswanya bagaimana proses erupsi gunung api terjadi dan menghasilkan materialnya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indonesia, Lanjut Andi, merupakan negara dengan jumlah gunungapi aktif paling banyak di dunia. Hal ini menjadi tantangan bagi civitas akademika untuk melakukan beragam kajian agar dapat menekan kerugian dari erupsi gunungapi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terkait metode observasi itu sendiri, Andi menjelaskan, para mahasiswanya  mengamati kenampakan batuan secara makro dengan menggunakan alat bantu seperti loupe, Hal ini bertujuan untuk mengenali kandungan mineral, tekstur, dan struktur yang ada pada aliran lava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selain melakukan observasi, para mahasiswa juga melakukan identifikasi daerah-daerah yang berpotensi terkena dampak dari letusan Gunung Guntur jika sewaktu-waktu terjadi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ia berharap dengan kegiatan ini para mahasiswa diharapkan mampu memahami bagaimana gunung api bekerja dan bagaimana sebaiknya kita mengelola segala ancaman yang ditumbulkannya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Usai melakukan observasi, para mahasiswa juga berkesempatan mengunjungi Pos PVMBG. Di dalam Pos ini mahasiswa mendapatkan penjelasan mengenai berbagai instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengamati aktivitas Gunung Guntur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gunung Guntur merupakan komplek gunungapi yang berada di Kabupaten Garut, Jawa Barat. Komplek gunungapi ini terletak di barat laut Kota Garut. Gunung Guntur pernah menjadi gunungapi paling aktif kedua di wilayah Indonesia pada periode 1800 hingga 1840, setelah Gunung Lamongan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selama periode ini, tercatat setidaknya lebih dari 20 kali erupsi terjadi. Produk letusan utamanya adalah aliran lava dan abu vulkanik.
