The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) has once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the national level. Several study programs have earned \u201cExcellent\u201d accreditation from the Independent Accreditation Agency for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA), namely the undergraduate (S1) Chemistry program, as well as the master\u2019s (S2) programs in Materials Science, Biology, and Physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cExcellent\u201d accreditation is awarded to study programs that have obtained international accreditation from leading institutions. The undergraduate (S1) Chemistry program received accreditation from the Royal Society of Chemistry, while the master\u2019s (S2) programs in Materials Science, Biology, and Physics are accredited by ASIIN, an international body specializing in science and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., emphasized that this achievement reflects the faculty\u2019s commitment to maintaining the quality of education and research, while also strengthening FMIPA UI\u2019s position at both the national and international levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis achievement is the result of the hard work of the entire academic community, including the faculty leadership, in maintaining the quality of education and research,\u201d said Prof. Tito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Januar Widakdo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit at FMIPA UI, although the study programs have obtained international accreditation, national accreditation by LAMSAMA is still carried out. This aims to provide official recognition at the national level while ensuring alignment with higher education standards in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis accreditation also enhances transparency and accountability, as all documents and supporting evidence are formally documented and can be accessed by the government, students, and other stakeholders,\u201d explained Januar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, \u201cThus, national accreditation complements international achievements while also serving as a benchmark and motivation for other study programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The biggest challenge in this process is aligning international standards with national regulations, as well as ensuring that the collected data and supporting evidence are comprehensive and consistent. Cross-unit coordination is key, given that the accreditation process involves various parties, ranging from study programs to the faculty level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To address these challenges, the Academic Quality Assurance Unit (UPMA) of FMIPA UI implements a structured and sustainable strategy. Intensive mentoring is provided from the early stages, including assistance in document preparation and understanding the substance of accreditation standards. UPMA also provides technical guidelines and standardized document templates, as well as conducting multi-layer reviews, coaching clinics, and assessment simulations to ensure that study program teams are well prepared for the evaluation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, digital data management is strengthened so that all evidence is properly documented and easily traceable. A collaborative approach becomes key, through cross-unit coordination and the sharing of best practices from study programs that have previously achieved international accreditation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the \u201cExcellent\u201d accreditation from LAMSAMA, FMIPA UI hopes to encourage other study programs to continue innovating, expand international networks, and strengthen its reputation as a leading faculty in Indonesia and globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
