The event was part of FMIPA UI\u2019s weekly seminar series entitled&nbsp;<em>UI Geoscience Seminar (UIGS) X STARBORN MENGAJAR 2026<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seminar featured Ir. Briyanto Adhie Setya W., Senior Geoscientist of the Exploration and Exploitation Division at Badan Pengelola Migas Aceh, as the keynote speaker. He delivered a presentation on the challenges posed by global uncertainty (<em>global uncertainty<\/em>) and its impact on the global energy market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his presentation, Ir. Briyanto Adhie Setya W. explained the concept of&nbsp;<em>energy trilemma<\/em>&nbsp;which calls for a balance between aspects of&nbsp;<em>sustainability<\/em>&nbsp;(keberlanjutan),&nbsp;<em>affordability<\/em>&nbsp;(keterjangkauan harga), dan&nbsp;<em>energy security<\/em>&nbsp;(ketahanan energi). He also highlighted the importance of the Strait of Hormuz as a&nbsp;<em>oil chokepoint<\/em>&nbsp;global chokepoint that plays a strategic role in maintaining the stability of global energy supplies. In addition, technologies such as&nbsp;<em>Carbon Capture Storage<\/em>&nbsp;dan&nbsp;<em>Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage<\/em>&nbsp;(CCS\/CCUS) was mentioned as one of the important bridging technologies in supporting the achievement of targets related to climate mitigation and the transition toward low-carbon energy systems.&nbsp;<em>Net Zero Emissions<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmid the energy transition and global uncertainty, Indonesia still has significant opportunities to strengthen national energy resilience through data-driven exploration, technological innovation, and sustainable resource management,\u201d said Ir. Briyanto Adhie Setya W.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the exploration review session of the North Sumatra Basin (<em>North Sumatra Basin\/NSB<\/em>), Ir. Briyanto Adhie Setya W. presented the long history of exploration in the region, which began with the discovery of oil at Telaga Tunggal-1 in 1885 and continued with the discovery of the Arun Field as a significant milestone in the development of Indonesia\u2019s energy sector&nbsp;<em>giant field<\/em>&nbsp;in 1971. According to him, the NSB is&nbsp;<em>mature basin<\/em>&nbsp;which remains highly promising, with a total of 11&nbsp;<em>plays<\/em>&nbsp;and an estimated potential of&nbsp;<em>Yet-To-Find<\/em>&nbsp;(YTF) reaching 9 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BBOE) in the Aceh region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also explained that recent discoveries at the Timpan, Layaran, and Tangkulo wells in the Bampo Formation, which are still&nbsp;<em>underexplored<\/em>&nbsp;this is proof that the hydrocarbon opportunities in the area are still very large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the discussion also reviews the petroleum system (<em>petroleum system<\/em>) in the North Sumatra Basin. The Bampo and Baong Formations are described as having played a role as&nbsp;<em>source rock<\/em>, while the Lumuai, Baong, and Peutu Formations (<em>carbonate buildup<\/em>) serve as&nbsp;<em>reservoir rock<\/em>. The trap system in this area is dominated by a combination of structural-stratigraphic and&nbsp;<em>fault-bounded anticline<\/em>, with the Baong Formation shale layer as&nbsp;<em>seal rock<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the speaker&#8217;s presentation, development in the basin has a number of advantages, including lower geological risks because the system has been proven (<em>proven system<\/em>), the availability of abundant subsurface data, and cost efficiency due to proximity to existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the presentations, the event continued with a question-and-answer session moderated by a moderator. Participants actively discussed a number of crucial issues, including estimating the resilience of the national oil and gas supply, innovations in exploration technology, and the reasons for the predominant distribution of wells in northern Sumatra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Closing the activity, Briyanto delivered a motivational message to all participants to continue to innovate, use their youth for positive things, and always do every job with their heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I hope the younger generation of geoscientists never stops learning and innovating. Take advantage of your youth to create and approach every process with passion so you can have a positive impact on the nation and the energy industry in the future,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The activity then ended with a plaque awarding ceremony as a form of appreciation to the speakers, followed by a joint documentation session between the speakers, moderator,
