The task of conservation biologists is to stem the tide of extinction and develop a series of plans that incorporate biodiversity not only as a resource for direct human well-being but also as a meaningful human value. In the future, nature conservation must be carried out simultaneously with the exploitation of natural resources, not after exploitation has occurred. Prof. Jatna Supriatna, M.Sc., Ph.D in his inaugural speech as a Permanent Professor of FMIPA UI in the field of Biology, on Saturday, March 11 2017 at the Djokosoetono Convention Hall, Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, Depok, led by the Chancellor of UI Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met.

Prof. Jatna Supriatna, M.Sc., Ph.D delivered a speech entitled “Peran Biologi Konservasi Mendukung Pembangunan Berkelanjutan”Conservation biology draws on various disciplines, including natural sciences, engineering, the humanities, medicine, religious studies, and others. Therefore, it is often stated that conservation biology is a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary science. Conservation biology has developed through a more integrated theoretical approach across multiple disciplines, emphasizing the long-term preservation of entire biological communities while simultaneously maintaining economic and social sustainability.

It is hoped that the development of conservation biology can help implement the Sustainable Development Goals together throughout the world, which in this case are formulated in 17 SDG goals which are expected to be the driving force of world development from 2015 to 2030.
