Good news again comes from The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject in 2022. Through its official website, QS WUR released the ranking according to subject or field of science. 5 clusters of science (broad subject area) at the University of Indonesia (UI) has successfully entered the international rankings. Among the fields of science are three from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia.
If in the previous year only the field of science Geography and Physics and Astronomy in the field of knowledge Natural Sciences recorded in the ranking, this year increased by one subject with the entry of the field of science Biological Sciences in the field of knowledge Life Sciences and Medicine.
In 2022, the field of science Geography still occupy the same position, namely 151-200, while Physics and Astronomy made an increase in ranking from last year, namely from position 551-600 to position 501-550, followed by the field of science Biological Sciences berhasil menduduki peringkat 551-600.
Dean of FMIPA UI Dede Djuhana Ph.D. expressed his gratitude and pride. He thanked the entire academic community of FMIPA UI. According to him, this achievement is the result of synergy and hard work of all its members.
With the addition of fields of science in FMIPA UI recorded in the ranking, the Dean is optimistic that in the future other fields of science will be able to add to the long list of achievements. This is not impossible, because according to him, FMIPA UI continues to encourage the improvement of academic reputation both at the national and international levels. In addition, collaboration with domestic and foreign partners in producing creative innovations is also being pursued.
“The leadership of FMIPA UI is certainly grateful and proud of the QS WUR 2022 ranking. This is a joint achievement, the result of hard work together with many parties, especially the academic community. In the future, it is not impossible for FMIPA UI to contribute other fields of science in QS WUR because we are working hard together to improve our academic reputation, domestic and international cooperation, research activities and superior innovations, we also continue to improve”. he said to the FMIPA UI public relations team.
Furthermore, he hopes that this achievement will be a motivation for the academic community of FMIPA UI to jointly improve performance, creativity and research innovation, in line with efforts to realize the vision of FMIPA UI, namely to become a leading science faculty in the field of science that is able to play a role at the global level to advance science and sustainable development.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 covers a total of 51 subject areas, grouped into five disciplines. The rankings are released by QS to help the public identify leading universities in specific subject areas and/or disciplines.
The ranking of world universities based on the field of study is determined based on an assessment of five indicators, namely academic reputation, the results of a global survey conducted on graduate users and academics, the number of research citations achieved by the university per paper in the subject (all citation data are sourced from Elsevier Scopus), the ‘H-index’ which measures the productivity and impact of published academic research, and the International Research Network which reflects the institution’s ability to diversify the geography of their international research network by building sustainable research partnerships with other higher education institutions.
