Depok – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) once again hosted an international scientific discussion through the Guest Lecture MIPA TALK SERIES 3, held on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at the Prof. Dr. Ir. Soemantri Brodjonegoro Auditorium, FMIPA UI, in Depok.
The event featured two distinguished experts from Chang Gung University, Taiwan: Prof. Dr. Jim-Thong Horng, Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences, and Prof. Scott Schuyler from the College of Medicine, Department of Biomedical Sciences.
On that occasion, Prof. Jim-Thong Horng presented a topic entitled “A Probenecid Derivative C-22 as a Novel Inhibitor Targeting Enterovirus D68 2B Protein via Calcium Homeostasis Disruption,” which explored the potential of the C-22 compound as a novel inhibitor to combat Enterovirus D68 by disrupting cellular calcium homeostasis.

Meanwhile, Prof. Scott Schuyler delivered a presentation entitled “Targeting the Anaphase-Promoting Complex/Cyclosome to Potentiate Anti-Cancer Drugs: An AI-Driven Approach,” highlighting the use of artificial intelligence to enhance the effectiveness of anticancer drugs by targeting the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome in cancer cells.
The event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Abinawanto, M.Si., Professor at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the Universitas Indonesia, who also emphasized the importance of international collaboration in biomedical research and AI-based innovation for the development of new therapies.
This event is expected to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange among students and researchers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the Universitas Indonesia, while also broadening insights into the latest developments in biochemistry, molecular biology, and AI-based health technologies.
