Expanding Distribution Reach, the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI Again Distributes Hand Sanitizer to Healthcare Facilities

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI, through the Department of Chemistry and the Chemistry Student Association (HMD Kimia), in collaboration with FMIPA UI Alumni, once again distributed hand sanitizer free of charge as part of a community service program.

The distribution of hand sanitizer, conducted from March 30 to April 10, 2020, in Depok and surrounding areas, was the second phase following the first distribution on March 20, 2020.

However, the distribution reach in this second phase was broader; besides being distributed to units within UI and the general public, it was also focused on helping to improve services and prevent the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak in several healthcare facilities such as hospitals, community health centers (puskesmas), and health clinics in Depok and nearby areas.

Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, Chair of the Department of Chemistry FMIPA UI, explained that at least six healthcare facilities had received hand sanitizer produced by the Department of Chemistry FMIPA UI, including clinics, puskesmas, and hospitals, with a total of 54 liters.

These include Puskesmas Kelurahan Bambu Apus II, Cipayung, East Jakarta, and Puskesmas Pancoran Mas, Depok; as well as UI Hospital, Islamic Hospital Jakarta, Bunda Hospital Jakarta, and Ummi Hospital in Bogor.

For the general public, a total of 1,500 bottles of 100 ml hand sanitizer were donated. Distribution to the general public, including vendors and online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojek online), was carried out both directly and through public facilities.

He also mentioned that at least 60 liters of hand sanitizer would soon be donated to other healthcare facilities.

“We have expanded the agenda of hand sanitizer production and distribution so that the benefits can be felt more widely, both for individuals or the general public, and even to healthcare facilities and the Mobile Brigade Corps headquarters, according to the target distribution amount,” said Budiawan.

The Dean of FMIPA UI, Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M. Eng., stated, “The FMIPA UI academic community, including faculty leaders, department heads, lecturers, students, and alumni, work together to help prevent the spread of this outbreak. This effort is carried out preventively as a form of care and humanity.”.
