The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) appointed three new professors simultaneously on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. The three professors are Prof. Dr. Jarnuzi Gunlazuardi (Photoelectrochemical Science), Prof. Dr. Vivi Fauzia, S.Si., M.Si. (Materials Science), and Prof. Dr. Drs. Abinawanto, M.Si. (Biology).
The three were officially inaugurated by UI Chancellor Prof. Ari Kuncoro, SE, MA, Ph.D., at the Convention Hall, UI Campus, Depok, and broadcast virtually through the University of Indonesia and UI Television YouTube channels.
This inauguration ceremony was the first to be held in person again, after FMIPA UI had previously held similar activities online several times, as a result of regulations restricting face-to-face activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prof. Dr. Jarnuzi Gunlazuardi in his inauguration delivered a speech entitled Artificial Photosynthesis for the Development of Environmentally Friendly Processes; Production of Methanol and Carbon Dioxide, Ammonia from Nitrogen, and Hydrogen from Water. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Vivi Fauzia, S.Si., M.Si. delivered her inaugural speech entitled The Potential of Nanomaterials in the Implementation of Sustainable Development Programs: Health, Energy, and Clean Water, while Prof. Dr. Drs. Abinawanto, M.Si., delivered an inaugural speech entitled Utilization of Natural Cryoprotectants for Cryopreservation of Fish Sperm in Ex-Situ Conservation Efforts.
Previously, both Prof. Dr. Jarnuzi Gunlazuardi, and Prof. Dr. Vivi Fauzia, S.Si., M.Si. through the decision of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia have been declared to meet the requirements to be given a promotion as a professor or professor starting from June 1, 2022. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Drs. Abinawanto, M.Si., starting from July 1, 2022.
Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, expressed his congratulations and high appreciation to the new professors. He hoped that these new positions would strengthen the quality of science in their respective fields and inspire new enthusiasm among the academic community in increasing the productivity of scientific work for the development of the Faculty.
“Alhamdulillah, today the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI has added three new professors. We, the leadership of FMIPA UI, congratulate the new professors on their achievements. We are certain that this struggle has not been easy. Hopefully, they can carry out these new positions well, strengthening their respective expertise and enhancing their scientific work, which can contribute to the faculty’s development,” he said to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.
Furthermore, the Dean said that FMIPA UI needs professors who are able to become supporting pillars for the excellence and progress of FMIPA UI in order to realize its vision of becoming a leading science faculty in the fields of mathematics and science that is able to play a role at the global level to advance science and sustainable development.
“In line with the vision of FMIPA UI to become a leading science faculty, the role of these professors is crucial as pillars supporting the advancement of FMIPA UI, through research results and scientific works that have an impact on society,” he added.
