The ceremony was conducted by UI Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met., Dean of FMIPA UI Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, along with SVP Research & Technology Center Pertamina Herutama Trikoranto.
The construction of this Multidisciplinary Research Lab is the result of a collaboration between the University of Indonesia (UI) and PT Pertamina (Persero) that has been underway for more than 10 years. A groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction for this project took place in December 2016.
The lab building consists of eight floors, each with a floor area of nearly 1,000 square meters. The ground floor is designated as an auditorium and the seven floors above are designated as multidisciplinary research labs and serve as the precursor to the development of a science park at UI. The allocations are for several key laboratories such as the Advanced Computing Lab, Computational and Experimental Nano Science Lab, Geoscience Lab, Geographic Information System (GIS)/Remote Sensing (RS) Lab, Tropical Biodiversity Lab, and Integrated Research Center.

The progress of the building’s construction has now reached 75%, and is expected to be completed in mid-November 2017. Carrying theGreen Buildingconcept , which is full of environmentally friendly concepts, this building is designed by implementing energy efficiency, thereby reducing energy consumption while remaining comfortable.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris hopes that this Laboratory will become a multidisciplinary research Lab for the UI science and technology cluster that is able to encourage the growth of innovative works for national development and develop research activities, both basic and applied research at UI in general and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) in particular.
