JAKARTA– Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu received an audience with the University of Indonesia (UI) academic community led directly by UI Chancellor Muhammad Anis, at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (21/3/2018).
In this audience, the UI Chancellor expressed his gratitude for the reception by the Minister of Defense along with the ranks of officials within the Ministry of Defense.
According to him, this is an honor for the entire UI academic community.
He stated that UI wants to build cooperation and synergy with the Ministry of Defense in supporting the development of the domestic defense industry, which he believes is part of the concept of national defense.
UI offers cooperation in developing the defense industry through a multidisciplinary approach, so that the targets of defense industry development can be reviewed from various aspects, including economic, sociological, engineering and other aspects in a comprehensive manner.
UI’s desire to strengthen cooperation and synergy with the Ministry of Defense is based on the fact that UI also has a grand strategy, one of which is to build strategic partners in order to actively participate in building the nation with a multidisciplinary approach.
“Many UI deans are present here to demonstrate our commitment to solving problems that we can work on together for the benefit of the nation from a multidisciplinary approach,” he said.
Responding to this, the Minister of Defense welcomed and hoped that the cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and UI would be realized in the form of signing a memorandum of understanding between the two parties within the framework of developing the domestic defense industry.
“The Ministry of Defense represents the government in carrying out development of the defense industry. Gentlemen who have knowledge can certainly help,” continued the Minister of Defense.
The Minister of Defense said that the defense industry plays an important role, firstly to strengthen national defense, and secondly to support and bolster economic growth.
Like powerful countries such as the US, UK, and France, their economies are largely supported by the defense industry.
“By being able to independently manufacture defense equipment, the nation will gain prestige. Secondly, our economy will be supported by the defense industry,” said the Minister of Defense.
Also accompanying the Minister of Defense were the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense, the Chancellor of the Indonesian National Defense University (Unhan), the Head of the KKIP Implementation Team, several officials within the Ministry of Defense, and the CEOs of state-owned enterprises (BUMNIS), namely PT DI, PT Pindad, PT PAL Indonesia, and PT Len. Meanwhile, the UI delegation was attended by the Deans of each Faculty within the UI environment.
