The student team of the Geophysics Study Program (Prodi) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), Cecilia Patra Dewanty (Geophysics 2019), Kholifatun Nisa (Geophysics 2019), and Stella Eulia Andoko (Geophysics 2021) successfully achieved an achievement in the prestigious Petronas Design Thinking Competition subtopic Exploration held by the Petronas Young Professionals Club (YPC).
Petronas Design Thinking Competition is a competition held by Petronas Young Professionals Club (YPC), which aims to encourage participants to apply the concept of… design thinking in solving problems related to the oil and gas industry. Several subtopics are competed in: Exploration, Subsurface, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), and Drilling.
More than 30 teams from various universities across Indonesia participated in the competition. The competition was divided into four categories based on subtopics, with four winning teams in each category.
The winners will be announced via email on July 26, 2023. The winners will also be invited to attend the prize-giving ceremony in person at the 2023 Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention & Exhibition at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition in Tangerang. All three were awarded the Exploration category.
“The steps we take start from dividing up tasks, interpreting seismic data from the horizon provided, and converting it into… time & depth map “We also provided petrophysical analysis in line with the competition’s objectives. Furthermore, we were guided by Ayunda Aulia Valencia, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., as our supervisor,” explained Stella.
The innovation they presented was entitled “Exploration of Oil Field “Nike” in the North Sumatra Basin“. Within a limited timeframe of two weeks, they conducted an analysis to evaluate the probability of success of the play system and analyze risk factors. This was done by creating time and depth structure maps, conducting petrophysical analysis, and calculating reservoir volumetrics.
Challenges are an inherent part of any competition. One of the main challenges Cecilia and her team faced was the limited available data and the lack of detail necessary for in-depth analysis. Despite this, the team overcame this challenge with determination and passion to produce relevant and comprehensive solutions.
Through this valuable experience, the team learned the countless benefits of participating in the Petronas Design Thinking Competition. Cecilia, the team leader, shared that their participation not only broadened their horizons but also helped them build valuable networks with fellow students and professionals in the oil and gas industry. Furthermore, the competition provided a valuable opportunity for them to apply the knowledge they had learned in the classroom to real-world situations.
The experience of the Geophysics Student Team in the Petronas Design Thinking Competition is concrete proof that competitions are a vital platform for students to develop and hone their potential. Passion and dedication to continuous learning and innovation are key to success in facing the challenges of the future.
For your information, Young Professional Club (YPC) PETRONAS 2023 is a competition organized by Young Professional Club (YPC) PETRONAS CARIGALI INDONESIA OPERATIONS with the main theme “Securing Sustainable Values towards NCZE 2050”.
This design thinking competition will give participants the opportunity to work in teams to solve real-life cases of various oil and gas industry problems, as well as find correlations with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The competition period will be held from June 21 to July 20, 2023 online, where the best teams will then be invited to the Petronas Booth at 2023 IPA Convex at ICE BSD Tangerang for the prize handover.
