The consistency of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) in improving the quality of education to international standards is proven by the success of three postgraduate study programs (prodi) that have just received full, unconditional accreditation from Akkreditierungsagentur fur Studiengange der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN). The three programs are Master of Physics, Master of Materials Science, and Master of Biology.
The accreditation obtained by these three postgraduate programs is unconditional with a validity period of 5 years starting from June 23, 2023 to September 30, 2028. This shows that the postgraduate learning provided by the three study programs is assessed as being aligned with Level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (European Qualifications Framework for Life-long Learning – EQF LLL).
“All master’s programs at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI offer two pathways: the Lecture Pathway and the Research Pathway. All three study programs are accredited for both pathways,” said Dr. Denny R. Silaban, M.Kom., Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit, to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.
Furthermore, Dr. Denny revealed that the series of activities towards ASIIN accreditation had begun in June 2022, starting with coordination and consolidation of the three study programs with the leadership of FMIPA UI, the formation of teams at the Faculty level and each study program, registering with ASIIN, preparing a joint Self Assessment Report (SAR) along with supporting documents, to conducting visitations involving leaders at the University level, faculties, departments, study programs, lecturers, students, industrial users of graduates, heads of laboratories, and representatives of units at UI such as the Library, Makara Satellite Clinic, RSUI, to UI Sports Facilities (SOR).
Dean of FMIPA UI Dede Djuhana, Ph.D. assessed that FMIPA UI’s commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of learning is the key to success in obtaining ASIIN accreditation.
“The benchmark for the success of these study programs in obtaining ASIIN accreditation is that the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) strives to apply the quality standards required for international qualifications not only to study programs that will participate in international accreditation, but to all study programs at FMIPA UI. Another success factor is, of course, the quality of human resources, especially lecturers, and laboratories in departments and study programs, which are capable of delivering high-quality learning,” said the Dean.
This achievement, continued the Dean, is also in line with FMIPA UI’s efforts in preparing students to become graduates with a global perspective and able to compete on the international stage.
“Currently, FMIPA UI is also in the process of reaccreditation with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for the Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program, whose RSC accreditation period will expire in December 2023,” the Dean added.
ASIIN is an independent, German-based institution for higher education quality assurance focusing on the fields of Engineering, Informatics, Science, Mathematics, Economics, and Medicine. Since 2000, the institution has had the right to issue the accreditation stamp from the German Accreditation Council. ASIIN is registered on the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) until August 31, 2026. EQAR is included in the list of accreditation registers recognized by the Indonesian government.
