Three FMIPA UI Students Achieve Achievements in Earth Science CompetitionThe University of Indonesia contingent represented by the FMIPA UI student team, namely Rasis Abi Tiana (geology 2017), Ghozy Alfatih (geophysics 2017) and Nauvaldi Arfan (geology 2017) won 3rd place in the 2019 Geoscience Trip and Paper Competition (GEOTRAP) in the Geosmart Competition, on October 7-8, 2019 in Bandung.

Geotrap is an annual competition with an earth science theme held by Padjadjaran University.

Rasis Abi Tiana, the team leader named Geogas, said that the Geosmart Competition was almost the same as a quiz.

He also revealed that several disciplines competed in the Geosmart category were subjects that they had previously studied at FMIPA UI, such as Sediments, Volcanology, Geodynamics, Structural Geology, Environmental Geophysics and other Geophysical materials.

Based on this disciplinary background, Abi and his teammates firmly chose the Geosmart category.

Furthermore, Abi continued, geology and geophysics are interrelated and complementary earth sciences. Therefore, he appointed one of his colleagues from the geophysics study program, Ghozy Alfatih, to join.

“Geology and Geophysics should be inseparable. They should complement each other,” said Abi.

This year, there are 3 series of competition events presented by Geotrap 2019, namely Paper Competition, Geosmart, and Seismic Interpretation.
