UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Lecturer Wins 2023 International Young Achiever Award

Dr. Lukmanda Evan Lubis, M.Si., Lecturer and researcher in the field of Medical Physics, Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) received an international award The P. N. Krishnamurthy Memorial Young Achiever Award 2023 from the Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP). He received the good news via email from the AFOMP Awards and Honors Committee on September 18, 2023.

Dr. Evan received the award because he was assessed active in Medical Physics service, research, and education activities, and active in the Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Indonesian Medical Physicists Alliance (AFISMI) as Chair of the Research and Scientific Publication Division.

In addition, AFOMP assesses Dr. Evan as a medical physicist who has leadership qualities as a member of the Executive Committee from South East Asia. Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (SEAFOMP).

The P. N. Krishnamurthy Memorial Young Achiever Award is an award given by AFOMP as a form of commemoration of P. N. Krishnamurthy, a Nuclear Scientist, Academic, and Pioneer in the field of Radiation Protection.

“This award motivates me to continue working, conducting research, and producing even better research results,” said Dr. Evan to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.

He further hopes that his efforts in service, research, and active participation in the field of medical physics will have a positive impact on the progress of medical physics in Indonesia and on the international stage.

“Hopefully, my research efforts and activities in the Medical Physics and Biophysics KBI team at the Department of Physics, FMIPA UI can contribute to the advancement of medical physics services for patients, radiation workers, and the public, both in Indonesia and internationally,” he said.

Under the guidance of pioneering medical physicists in Indonesia, namely Prof. Dr. Djarwani Soeharso, professor of FMIPA UI, and head of the Master of Medical Physics Study Program FMIPA UI namely Dr. Supriyanto Ardjo Pawiro, Dr. Evan has been pursuing various research activities and developing the contribution of Physics science in diagnostic and interventional radiology services since 2012, by collaborating with alumni and colleagues of medical physicists in various hospitals in Indonesia as partners.

Together with his team, the medical physicist from the University of Indonesia Hospital also received research funding worth €32,000, equivalent to Rp 500 million, from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the world’s atomic agency headquartered in Vienna, Austria, in 2021 for a research proposal entitled “Establishing Guidelines and Recommendations for Solid State Dosimetry in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology.” The research aims to improve radiation safety for patients, radiation workers, and the public.

When Indonesia was facing the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, he joined the AIRA (artificial intelligence for radiological applications) research team as Team Coordinator, developing the DSS-CovIDNet innovation. This is a tool to help predict Covid-19 pneumonia cases using an artificial intelligence-based program.artificial intelligencedeep-learning,  under the direction of Prof. Dr. Djarwani S. Soejoko, FIOMP, and Prawito, Ph.D.

The achievement of the lecturer from the Department of Physics received appreciation from the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D. The Dean stated that the leadership of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, highly appreciates Dr. Evan’s dedication as a source of pride for the Faculty. He assessed that the award won by his academic community adds to the long list of achievements of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia lecturers at the world level.

“Congratulations to Dr. Evan on receiving this award. This achievement is a source of pride for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, and adds to the long list of achievements of our faculty,” said the Dean.

Furthermore, he is optimistic that the achievements received by Dr. Evan will motivate other lecturers at FMIPA UI to continue to diligently expand their scientific insights, and maintain their enthusiasm in conducting research to improve the capacity and quality of higher education.

“Research activities by lecturers and researchers are the lifeblood of higher education, so we hope that our fellow lecturers at FMIPA UI will also be motivated, continue to expand their scientific knowledge, and, just as importantly, maintain their enthusiasm for research activities,” he added.
