UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Student Team Wins Second Place in National Scientific Writing Competition

The FMIPA UI student team consisting of Muhammad Alzaid Ponka (Geology 2016), Albar Karismawan (Geology 2016) and Diki Nurul Huda (Geography 2016) received an award as the second winner in the National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN) category in the National Ercom Competition (NEON 2019) held by Ercom FT KBM UNIB at the University of Bengkulu, Bengkulu, on September 19, 2019.

Through a written work entitled “Aquomal (Geothermal Aquaculture): Utilization of Low Enthalpy Geothermal Heat to Increase Fishery Cultivation Productivity”, the team led by Muhammad Alzaid Ponka succeeded in beating 340 other student teams from all over Indonesia.

Of the many fields (Sub Themes) offered by NEON this year, the three of them chose the field of Science and Technology to develop in their written work.

Other fields are Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Tourism, Agriculture and Food, Industrial Society Economy, Social & Culture, Renewable Energy and Nano Technology.

All of these areas are focused on the big theme of NEON this year, namely “Optimizing innovation and the role of Millennials in facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Towards Golden Indonesia 2045.”

Muhammad Alzaid Ponka, the team leader, explained that he and his team had gone through several stages, starting with abstract submission and continuing through the selection process, until the abstract was declared successful. Upon being declared successful, he and his team immediately began writing their scientific paper.

The student, who is familiarly called Alza, also explained that the main topic in his and his team’s written work was about geothermal energy. Alza said this was because it was in line with research they had previously conducted.

According to Alza, there are still many geothermal benefits that should be developed for use by the community.

For him, his and his team’s achievements are truly extraordinary. The National Scientific Paper Competition has had a very positive impact on them. Through this activity, they have gained networkingand new ideas from across disciplines in various aspects, including social, cultural and technological.

“Selain networking“New ideas and various multidisciplinary fields emerged across all aspects of social, cultural, technological, and other fields. From this event, we also learned more about how to present our work effectively and engagingly,” said Alza.

Alza and the team hope that their fellow students at FMIPA UI will continue to strive to foster interest in the field of writing, especially writing scientific papers according to their respective fields of interest.

For him, there is nothing wrong with trying new things by continuing to look for opportunities to channel talents, including writing talents.

“In fact, many competitions can broaden your knowledge and experience. They also provide opportunities to showcase your talents. It all depends on your willingness to learn and seek out information,” he said.
