A proud achievement was achieved by Meutia Admiralda Andini, a student from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), Biology Undergraduate Study Program, class of 2018.
On April 20, 2022, Meutia won two medals at the FKIP UISU Science Competition (FUSC), a national-level science competition organized by the National Science Championship Center (Puskanas) in collaboration with the Islamic University of North Sumatra (UISU).
In the competition held online, Meutia brought home a gold medal for the English Olympiad and a silver medal in the biology Olympiad.
Meutia’s interest in biology and English motivated her to participate in this event. Besides being a student, Meutia also actively teaches biology and English to elementary, middle, and high school students, making her increasingly familiar with various problems.
Another thing that motivated him to take part in the competition was the desire to challenge himself as well as measure and hone his competence in the branch of science he was studying.
“Actually, my biggest motivation is because of my failure in a similar competition before. Besides that, I also want to make the most of my final year by adding to my… achievement. I have a principle to just try it first because if No tried, we No will be able to achievement nothing,” said Meutia.
Despite being accustomed to dealing with exam questions, he admitted he still encountered challenges in completing them. The main obstacles, he said, were a fear of failure and a frequent loss of self-confidence.
“Apart from the level of difficulty of the questions, I think the other challenge is more mental., “especially to overcome panic and remain confident that we can do the questions well,” he added.
In addition to the Biology and English Competitions, FUSC (FKIP UISU Science Competition) also opens competitions in 9 other science fields for the SMA/MA/SMK/university students category, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Geography, Earth Sciences, Astronomy, Indonesian, and Informatics.
This competition aims to motivate Indonesia’s young generation to improve their spiritual, emotional, and intellectual abilities based on good norms and values; apply scientific knowledge in everyday life; serve as a means of evaluating the abilities of Indonesia’s young generation; and prepare Indonesia’s young generation to compete in the National Science Competition (KSN) from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
