UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Students Win Two Titles at the National Taekwondo Championship

Syahda Arquette Sedana, a 2018 Geography student from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), and a member of the UI Taekwondo Student Activity Unit (UKM), won two national-level taekwondo championships.

The first was first place in Senior Women’s Speed Kicking at the Bharaduta Open 2 National Taekwondo Championship, held online by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (KEMENPORA RI) and the Indonesian Taekwondo Executive Board (PBTI) on September 11-12, 2021.

The second was first place in Senior Women’s Speed Kicking at the 2021 Gadjah Mada University Taekwondo Championship (UGMTC), also held online on September 24-26, 2021.

In the Speed Kicking competition, participants are required to execute as many shadow kicks as possible, or kicks that hit the target (patching) within a certain time. At the Bharaduta National Taekwondo Championship, attended by 1,300 athletes, Syahda achieved a total score of 6.20 for shadow kicks performed over 60 seconds.

Meanwhile, at the 2021 UGMTC National Championship, attended by 388 athletes, Syahda achieved a total score of 6.7667 for kicks hitting the target (patching), also performed within 60 seconds.

Participating in two taekwondo championships in such a short time was no easy feat for Syahda. He admitted that he had to manage his time effectively, as the championships were also accompanied by a busy schedule of studying, internships, and teaching.

“The challenge I face is time management. My busy schedule of studying, interning, and teaching requires me to manage my time and consistently make time for taekwondo training,” said Syahda.

“Even so, driven by a desire to excel, I still try to persevere and give my best in every competition I participate in. I must be responsible for completing the choices I’ve made,” continued the woman, who is also the Secretary of the UI Taekwondo Student Activity Unit.

Going forward, Syahda hopes to avoid becoming complacent and complaining too quickly. Syahda expressed that she will remain enthusiastic about practicing taekwondo, regardless of the situation and conditions.
