Welcoming New Students, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Gives Advice

On Wednesday (August 15th), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Indonesia (UI) held an Introduction to the Faculty’s Academic System to welcome new students in 2018. This year, FMIPA UI accepted 1,198 new undergraduate students.

This annual event, held across all faculties at UI, ran until August 18th, 2018, under the theme “Discover Your Meaning.”

This theme was intended to help new FMIPA UI students understand the importance of becoming students who are useful to the nation, state, and even the world.

The event was officially opened by Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, Dean of FMIPA UI, at the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building of FMIPA UI – PT. Pertamina (Persero). He introduced his entire staff to the new students, including the vice deans, managers, coordinators, heads of departments, and study programs.

In his remarks, Haris congratulated the new students, explaining that acceptance into FMIPA UI requires a rigorous selection process and competition.

“You should be grateful for having been accepted into FMIPA UI, because you’ve overcome intense competition to be accepted here,” he said.

Therefore, Haris continued, this achievement is worthy of gratitude, as it reflects the diligence and seriousness of pursuing an education at FMIPA UI.

He also assured the new students that studying at FMIPA UI offers vast future opportunities, given the scientific foundation it provides.

“FMIPA UI provides you with a scientific foundation; you must be able to develop that into future technology. No technology is born without science as its foundation,” Haris concluded.
