Wednesday (21/12/2022), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) held a 62nd Anniversary Thanksgiving at the Sinar Mas Hall, FMIPA UI Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building – PT Pertamina, UI Campus, Depok.
Carrying a theme“Inovatif, Cerdas dan Kompetitif”, The 62nd Anniversary of FMIPA UI is expected to be able to increase enthusiasm, integrity, and strengthen the shared commitment of the FMIPA UI academic community and residents, to synergize in harmony to achieve the vision of FMIPA UI as a leading science faculty through breakthroughs, hard and smart work, and a competitive attitude.
In his remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., expressed his gratitude for the faculty’s achievements in research, academics, and non-academics. He attributed all these achievements to the collaborative efforts of the faculty’s academic community and the university’s community.
“Throughout 2022, we are grateful for the various achievements made by the FMIPA UI academic community, both lecturers and students,” said Dean Dede in his remarks.
These achievements include, FMIPA UI successfully entered the international rankings of The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject in 2022 for the field of Science. Geography ranked 151-200 in the Natural Science group, the field of Science Physics and Astronomy, which are ranked 501-550 in the Natural Sciences group, and this year, the Biological Sciences field in the field of knowledge Life Sciences and Medicine adds to the list of scientific fields at FMIPA UI that are included in the international ranking.
“With the increasing number of fields of study at FMIPA UI being recorded in international rankings, we are optimistic that in the future other fields of study at FMIPA UI will be able to add to this long list of achievements,” he said.
He also emphasized that FMIPA UI is committed to encouraging the improvement of its academic reputation both at the national and international levels, one of which is through collaboration with domestic and international partners in producing creative innovations.
Other achievements include the re-obtaining of the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) ISO 9001: 2015 Certificate by DQS, the acquisition of the Akkreditierungsagentur fur Studiengange der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN) certification for the undergraduate study programs in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Geography, the acquisition of the ISO 17025 certificate by CMPB UI as a testing laboratory from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN). FMIPA UI also made a rapid improvement in the UI Green Metric ranking, from the original ranking of 15, this year FMIPA UI shot up to rank 2.
From the student affairs sector, this year, FMIPA UI students as a whole managed to win 220 awards consisting of 59 international awards and 161 national awards.
In the areas of research and community service, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, has produced reputable journals in Q1 and Q2, exceeding the target set by UI, reaching 168%. This percentage is significantly higher than the target.
Achievements and awards were also achieved by FMIPA UI lecturers, namely, among the 12 lecturers at UI who were included in the top 2% of world scientists in 2023 by Stanford University, 5 of them are FMIPA UI lecturers. Then, 2 of the 4 UKICIS grant awardees at UI came from FMIPA, and one of the lecturers in the Physics department, Prof. Anto Sulaksono, received the Science & Technology award from the Indonesia Toray Science Foundation (ITSF).
Meanwhile, in the field of community service, the Dean said that the number of community service proposals that were successfully funded by DIKTI, UI, and FMIPA UI had increased.
“Furthermore, the Parangtopo Laboratory complex is also increasingly playing a role as a facility for various FMIPA UI community service activities,” said the Dean.
Finally, at the end of 2022, FMIPA UI successfully produced three new professors simultaneously, each consisting of the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The Dean hopes that all these achievements will motivate the entire academic community and the FMIPA UI community to work together to improve performance, creativity, and innovation.
To ensure the sustainability of FMIPA UI, the Dean emphasized that FMIPA UI strives to focus on improving the quality of education and research through programs and fields such as Independent Learning Independent Campus, domestic and international research collaboration, synergy & revitalization of resources, downstreaming & entrepreneur university, quality assurance & international programs.
UI Chancellor, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. in his remarks congratulated FMIPA UI on its increasing age and increasing achievements.
“We should also be grateful that at the age of 62, FMIPA UI continues to grow and develop to fill this day and is committed to continuing to educate the nation’s children to build Indonesia’s future with work, creativity and innovation, as well as the spirit of progress and togetherness,” said Prof. Ari.
Furthermore, the UI Chancellor said, in the new paradigm of higher education development in the digitalization era and post-Covid-19 pandemic, FMIPA UI has emphasized strategies to increase competitiveness in line with UI’s vision, mission and Strategic Plan, namely to make UI innovative, independent, inclusive, dignified, and superior in Southeast Asia and the world.
According to him, the commitment, hard work, and intelligence of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, are demonstrated in their efforts to improve their academic reputation nationally and internationally. This includes infrastructure development in the form of a multidisciplinary building/laboratory. smart class room, comfortable and safe lecture rooms, as well as research and innovation laboratories.
On that occasion, the Chancellor also gave direction to the entire FMIPA UI academic community to always maintain a good academic climate, research, and community service as an effort to optimize the quality learning process and encourage new developments in science.
The event then concluded with a tumpeng (rice cone) cutting ceremony by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI). During this ceremony, the Dean expressed his hope that FMIPA UI would continue to prosper and become a leading science faculty in the nation.
Also present at this event were the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of UI Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc., the Deans and Vice Deans at UI, the leadership of FMIPA UI both at the faculty and department levels, the leaders of FMIPA UI partners, the chairman of the Alumni Association (ILUNI) FMIPA UI Mr. Satya Heragandhi, the chairman of BEM FMIPA UI Abdurrahman Ihsan, and educational staff at FMIPA UI.
