Department of Chemistry, Universitas Indonesia was established in 1960 with SK Mentri Pendidkan dan Kebudayaan RI, No. 108084/UU tanggal 21 Desember 1960. Since then, it has grown to become one of top leading academic institutions in Indonesia. Department of Chemistry, Universitas Indonesia offers Undergraduate Program (Sarjana S1), Master Program (Magister, S2) and Doctor of Philosophy Program (Doktor S3) which have been accredited A by BAN-PT and ASEAN University Network (AUN) (Undergraduate Program, Sarjana S1). Department of Chemistry currently has six academic Professors (Guru Besar) and 60% of our academic staff are Ph.D. holders graduated from reputable Universities worldwide.
Department of Chemistry, Universitas Indonesia carries out state-of-the-art research in various major chemical academic areas and is organized around five divisions:
- Division of Inorganic Chemistry
- Division of Analytical Chemistry
- Division of Physical Chemistry
- Division of Organic Chemistry
- Division of Biochemistry
To promote industrial and technological in chemical research and development, the department is working collaboratively with many industrial partners both in public and private sectors such as PERTAMINA, PT Mowilex Indonesia, PT Seiv Indonesia, PT Sigma Utama, PT Bintang Toedjoe, PT Siegwerk, PT Starborn Indonesia, PT IMCD, PT Indesso Primatama. The chemistry department has also conducted internal and external collaborations in research and academic developments with other departments within UI or with both local and foreign Universities such as Warwick University (UK), University of Aberdeen (Scotland), Leiden University, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, University of Strasbourg, University of Kansas, POSTECH South Korea, Ulsan University South Korea, Hanyang University South Korea, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Kyoto University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, KEIO University (Japan), University Of Malaya, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), University Malaya Terengganu (UMT), Nanyang Technological University Singapore and National University of Singapore (NUS).
