Two villages in Jasinga District, Bogor Regency, were chosen as the locations for their third Field Work Lecture (KKL) by students from the 2019 intake of the Geography Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI). The two villages are Tegalwangi and Wirajaya.
Nineteen students participated in this activity. They conducted research in the border region with the main theme “Research in Border Villages.” The activity lasted three days, from May 23, 2022, to May 26, 2022.
To the FMIPA UI Public Relations team, Dr. Taqiyuddin as the supervising lecturer revealed that in accordance with the theme, the KKL 3 activity in Jasinga raised research issues in border villages of West Java and Banten provinces.
“A total of 19 of our students participated in the research, there should have been 20, but one could not participate due to an unforeseen condition,” he said.
Each student works on research with a different title by referring to two major themes given, namely Physical Geography (Water quality, threats of floods, landslides, drought, etc.) and Human Geography and their combinations (Public health facilities, healthy nutrition access facilities, children’s education during the Covid-19 pandemic, etc.).
The research material focuses on issues related to the theme, including the implementation of therapeutic landscapes in tourist attractions in Jasinga District, and patterns of change in residential land use based on topography in 2016 and 2022.
The human geography expert also said that the results of this research will be processed into a database for the university, and then will be published more widely to help the local government in solving problems in the border region.
“We will publish more widely through several journal articles and other publications, as well as seminars on and off campus,” he concluded.
