FMIPA UI Inaugurates Alumni Lounge

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI now has an Alumni Lounge facility located on the 3rd Floor of the FMIPA UI Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building – PT Pertamina, UI campus, Depok. The inauguration of this 60 M2 room was marked by the signing of an inscription by the Acting Dean of FMIPA UI Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., and the Chairperson of the FMIPA UI Alumni Association (ILUNI) Pamela Cardinale on Saturday, June 12, 2021 virtually.

This very representative space, both as a co-working space, and for holding meetings, discussions, and socializing between FMIPA UI alumni, is equipped with various facilities. Among them are meeting chairs and tables, projector screens, sofas, wifi access, and pantry.

Ir. Ahmad Syafiq, M.Sc., Ph.D. as the Director of DPKHA (Directorate of Career Development & Alumni Relations) UI also attended directly at the alumni lounge of FMIPA UI. In his speech, he conveyed his impression of the room which was so comfortable and ideal, so he hoped that FMIPA UI alumni would be able to utilize the alumni lounge facilities optimally.

“The room is comfortable, cozy “I really hope that this room can be an exchange of ideas, the birth of ideas that can improve the role of alumni for both faculties and universities,” said the Director of DPKHA UI.

Furthermore, Ahmad Syafiq said that alumni are stakeholders who have an important role for a university. Therefore, efforts to bring alumni closer and foster a sense of belonging to their alma mater are very important to do, one of which is through the existence of a comfortable place for alumni to actualize, especially if the place is in a campus environment.

“The alumni lounge which is integrated with the campus, in the FMIPA UI environment, hopefully will make alumni meetings with students and lecturers more intense and closer, so that… branchmarking UI as an educational institution will be stronger if all its alumni are empowered, all its students have better potential, and their future is bright,” he said.

On the same occasion, the Chairperson of ILUNI FMIPA UI Pamela Cardinale appreciated the efforts of the FMIPA UI leadership in providing facilities to alumni. She said that the size of this room is very adequate for a lounge. According to her, during a pandemic like now, the room cannot be utilized optimally because there are restrictions for alumni who want to visit. Even so, Pamela ensured that alumni can use it as co-working space by scheduling an arrival time with the alumni lounge administrator.

“This room is quite spacious for a lounge, during a pandemic like this it cannot be used optimally, but alumni are still allowed to use it as a co-working space or a place for discussion,” added Pamela.

Pamela also invited FMIPA UI alumni to continue to provide contributions to FMIPA UI in the form of ideas, concepts, and materials in terms of helping the development of FMIPA UI.

“I hope the existence of this alumni lounge will make alumni more united, synergize, and work together,” he added.

Acting Dean of FMIPA UI Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng. said that this alumni lounge is intended and prepared specifically for FMIPA UI alumni with the aim that alumni will increasingly grow a sense of belonging to the faculty that will always be a second home when visiting FMIPA UI. Moreover, said Dr. Rokhmatuloh, this alumni lounge is located in an eight-story building together with various research laboratories, so it is very possible for alumni to conduct joint research projects.

“This is our effort to complete various facilities and support to all stakeholders of FMIPA UI. In this alumni lounge room, it is specifically prepared for FMIPA UI alumni to carry out activities that have a contribution value to the development of the faculty and national development”.

“I hope this alumni lounge can be a point that synergizes alumni from each department into a unity in a faculty alumni, to contribute to national development, and strengthen the synergy between alumni and the faculty and university community,” said the Acting Dean of FMIPA UI.

Furthermore, Dr. Rokhmatuloh explained that the FMIPA UI alumni lounge can also be a comfortable place for the latest FMIPA UI graduates to prepare for their career steps. Later, said Dr. Rokhmatuloh, the fresh graduates will be facilitated with various training as preparation for entering the world of work, provision to become entrepreneurs, or community leaders. For that, he expects the involvement of FMIPA UI alumni who have succeeded in achieving success in their fields to share tips for success, and experiences with junior alumni.
